Top Goalscorer Betting – Why Now is the Time to Bet on Benteke

Liverpool’s imminent sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City could prove to be the perfect time to bet on Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke in the Premier League top goalscorer betting market, with rivals Manchester United also rumoured to be keen.

Premier League Top Goalscorer Betting

Christian Benteke’s last two seasons in English football may not have been as impactive as his debut campaign in 2012-13, but niggles and injuries aside, the Belgium striker still boasts a strike rate of almost 1 in 2 after three seasons in the Premier League.

A release clause of £32.5 million is unlikely to deter suitors Liverpool and Manchester United who are currently the two sides that are favourite to snap up the striker in the next club betting market.

Benteke carries plenty of domestic experience in the Premier League with 42 goals in 88 games in a side that has consistently struggled in the division and at the age of 24 the Belgium forward looks well placed to make the step up, after already showing his quality on the international stage.

Liverpool

Early suitors Liverpool have tightened their grip on the in the betting markets with Brendan Rodgers’ side priced as low as 1.33 to secure the transfer of Christian Benteke before the transfer window closes.

Fuelled by an imminent £49 million from the sale of Raheem Sterling, the Reds have more than enough finance to match the release clause of the player who is rumoured to be open to a move to Merseyside.

Benteke’s arrival to Liverpool would see the club potentially alter their tactics to a 4-3-3 to allow full backs Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno to provide the width and crosses to fuel the big Belgium inside the box.

Liverpool’s transfer policy so far suggests a move for Benteke may be less engineered than many may think, but Benteke’s goal record in the Premier League is something that could pay dividends for the club in their ambition to secure Champions League football and progress in the division after a disappointing campaign last time around.

Manchester United

With Dutch striker Robin Van Persie currently in Istanbul finalising a move to Turkish Superlig side Fenerbahce, Manchester United are beginning to look increasingly short of firepower upfront, with English strikers Wayne Rooney and rookie James Wilson the only two recognised strikers available to manager Louis van Gaal currently.

Rooney’s deeper role last campaign appears to have backing amongst Manchester United’s backroom staff, with the club looking more and more likely to be in the market for a new striker, despite van Gaal’s please that summer signing Memphis Depay can play up front.

A move for Benteke would add a focal point and a different dimension to the manager’s options and attacking line, with finances rumoured to be in place for the club to make a move for the Aston Villa player if sanctioned.

Verdict

With potential suitors Manchester United and Liverpool in waiting, Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke looks poised to make the step up this season.

Backing Benteke each-way in the Premier League top goalscorer market could provide short term gains if you back-to-lay, but a move to either Liverpool or Manchester United could provide decent each-way value with the striker currently priced at 26.00 in the early season betting markets.
