Back a Top Half Finish for Palace

A 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday saw Crystal Palace move level on points with fifth-placed Tottenham and the Eagles growing spirit makes the club an interesting football bet to finish in the top seven this season.

A goal from Yohan Cabaye last weekend earned Crystal Palace a fully deserved victory over Southampton, as Alan Pardew’s side moved into the top-six.

The Eagles victory over the Saints was the club’s eighth win of the Premiership campaign; the same number of wins as Louis Van Gaal has managed for Manchester United this term.

Palace’s attacking armoury continues to draw plaudits, with DR Congo international Yannick Bolasie again impressing last weekend.

The wide player’s pace and direct approach continues to prove a powerful combination, but it was another one of Pardew’s player’s who caught the eye in south London with talisman Cabaye showing his class and quality with a masterful display.

With the arrival of the January transfer window not too far away, Pardew will be hopeful that the imminent US investment from David Blitzer and Josh Harris will give the club an increase in their budget and exposure despite the American duo’s minority stake.

The Eagles have been linked to a number of players in the winter transfer window already, with out-of-favour Juventus striker Simone Zaza thought to be high on the clubs radar.

The likes of Connor Wickham, Dwight Gayle and Patrick Bamford have all failed to show their return in front of goal and if Palace are to keep their place in the top half of the table and beyond, then upgrading their attack with a more reliable and explosive striker would be a good starting point.

Growing sponsorship deals, including a shirt deal with an online casino company highlight the club’s growing revenue streams, but the Eagles identity and DNA remains fiercely British and proudly local to south London, with the club looking to improve their ground at Selhurst Park as part of their wider project.

The club’s youth academy will continue to be nurtured, but if the club are going to find their way onto the next step of the football pyramid then strengthening their squad in January and over the summer remains an important battleground.

Earlier in the month Pardew declared his ambitions for the season by declaring his “dreams are better than that (a tenth placed finish)” and investment in January coupled with soaring player spirit could give the Eagles an outside chance to qualify for Europe this season.
