Premiership Betting Tips – 15-16 December

Manchester United’s derby win at the Etihad Stadium extended the Red Devils lead to six points after a late Robin Van Persie free kick.

Everton’s late show at Goodison Park moved the Toffees up to fourth in the table and Chelsea picked up their first win in the league under Rafa Benitez.

Elsewhere Arsenal secured a vital win over West Brom, QPR remained win-less and Norwich’s fine run of form continued with a superb 4-3 victory at the Liberty Stadium.

This week our Premier League predictions come from Newcastle, as Manchester City travel to St James Park and Carrow Road, as in-form Norwich entertain Wigan.

Premiership Betting Tips

Newcastle (5.50) v Manchester City (1.66); Draw (3.40)

Manchester City’s defeat at the Etihad Stadium last weekend was a bitter pill to swallow, as rivals Manchester United extended their league at the top of the table.

Roberto Mancini is under increasing pressure with the Citizens having already been eliminated at the Champions League group stage for the second year in a row, so the trip to St James Park is a fixture not to be taken lightly.

Manchester City have not lost on the road in the league this season and the Premier League champions have also kept clean sheets in each of the last three away matches.

Hosts Newcastle are enduring a terrible run of form that has seen defeats in five of their last six games in the league and the Magpies continue to slide ever closer to the relegation zone.

Gabriel Obertan could return but the doubt over midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa is a major blow for Alan Pardew.

Manchester City have won eight of their last nine matches against Newcastle in all competitions and the Citizens will be desperate not to lose any further ground on the leaders.

Norwich (2.20) v Wigan (3.25); Draw (3.40)

Last weekend’s 4-3 win at the Liberty Stadium was a perfect example of the confidence and spirit currently running through the Norwich City side.

The Canaries are enjoying their best ever run in the Premier League, but the midweek defeat in the Capital One Cup against Aston Villa was difficult to take, particularly as it was inflicted by former manager Paul Lambert.

Alex Tettey and Wes Hoolahan could both over come injuries to feature, but defender Steven Whittaker will need to be assessed before the game.

Norwich are unbeaten in their last nine games in the league, a run that has included four wins at Carrow Road and the Canaries could finish the weekend as high as seventh in the table with victory.

Opponents Wigan continue to struggle to find goals in the Premier League after the departures of Victor Moses and Hugo Rodallega over the summer, but James McCarthy’s brace last weekend did rescue a point at home against bottom side QPR.

Wigan have won just once in their last six league games and manager Roberto Martinez continues to face the staunchest of challenges in keeping the Latics up.

Wigan have conceded at least two goals in their last six games in the Premier League and the absence of defenders Gary Caldwell and Ivor Ramis could cause Martinez further headaches.

Wigan have lost five of their last six away games in the league and Chris Hughton’s in-form side will be looking to bounce back from their Capital One Cup defeat.
