Goalscorer Betting – Why Rooney Provides Value

Louis Van Gaal’s admission that Wayne Rooney will play as the club’s main striker this campaign should see the England striker attract plenty of interest in the football betting markets on the eve of the new Premier League season.

Manchester United’s decision to move on Robin van Persie to Turkish side Fenerbahce caught many by surprise, but the decision by the club not to take up their option for on-loan striker Radamel Falcao did not.

Louis van Gaal’s faith in Manchester United’s longest serving player has not only extended to the captain’s armband, but the manager’s backing as the Red Devils number one striker for the forthcoming campaign.

Rooney has twice featured consistently for Manchester United as a centre forward; scoring 26 goals in 32 games six years ago and 27 goals in 34 games back in the 2011/2012 season and a similar goal haul could be on the cards this term.

Back-up striker Javier Hernandez looks poised to repeat his bit-part role in Manchester from his time at Real Madrid last season, whilst rookie James Wilson looks braced for run-outs in United’s cup competitions at best.

That would leave Wayne Rooney with a clear berth to feature regularly for the Red Devils up front, something the England striker has not enjoyed at the club for four years.

Rooney’s 12 goals from centre midfield last term highlighted the player’s attacking intent, but just a solitary goal during pre-season may put backers off according to the bookmakers.

Manchester United’s potential move for Barcelona’s unsettled forward Pedro will not displace Rooney from the central attacking position and although manager Louis van Gaal has hinted at a Galactico , with the likes of Gareth Bale mentioned; the realisation of a new centre forward looks unlikely to materialise despite more than three weeks left in the transfer window.

Tips online suggest on-going injury concerns to Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero could even leave Rooney with claims to land the Premier League Golden Boot in the outright betting market, especially given the level of competition up front for Rooney’s main rivals this time round.

With Rooney having been backed in from 17.00 to 11.00 in the Premier League top scorer betting market in the last two weeks, confidence in the England striker appears to be growing and with little sign of a new arrival to displace the forward at the club, expect Louis van Gaal’s number one striker to at least finish the campaign as the top English scorer in the Premier League this time around.
