Boxing Day Premier League Predictions

With the weather and snow disrupting the previous round of games, this years Boxing Day festive football fixtures are even more anticipated than usual with some cracking ties for football fans to absorb along with some leftover turkey and mince pies.

In the stand out fixture of the round Arsenal welcome Chelsea to the Emirates who have won the last 5 games against the Gunners. Chelsea are set to welcome back Frank Lampard to their starting line up which is a big plus for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Arsenal have a worrying record against Chelsea and also Man Utd and have only managed 1 draw in 11 in all competitions against the two sides. As records go Drogba is definitely a thorn in Wenger’s side. The Ivorian has scored an incredible 13 goals in 11 games against the Gunners in all competitions. Drogba will be desperate to make amends for the late penalty miss against Spurs and is good value to get on the score sheet anytime. Ancelotti did promise he would win his next game, which would have been the postponed fixture vs Manchester United and this promise must surely extend to winning against Wenger’s Arsenal side.

There is not much cheer around Villa Park this Christmas, with a number of players feeling jolted by Gerard Houllier such as Ireland, Dunne and Sidwell to name a few. The Villains have a woeful record on Boxing Day with only one win since 1999, whilst Spurs on the other hand are unbeaten since 2003. Spurs and Harry Redknapp have an encouraging record against Aston Villa who themselves are in poor form. Redknapp has not lost to a Villa side in 4 and a half years and is unbeaten in 9  and Tottenham have only lost 2 of the last 12 matches. Spurs crucially welcome back van der Vaart whose brace was enough when these two sides met at White Hart Lane. Given Spurs’ indifference travelling outside of London a DNB looks a safe choice.
