Aston Villa v Arsenal – Betting Preview

Arsenal will be hoping to reclaim top spot in the Premier League on Monday night, in the last of this weekend’s matches.

Sportingly Better picks out the best value football tips this weekend as Aston Villa host Arsenal.

Aston Villa (6.50) v Arsenal (1.53); Draw (4.50)

Goals from Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott gave Arsenal a routine victory over Cardiff two weeks ago, as the Gunners maintained their position at the top of the table.

Victory over Tottenham in the FA Cup last weekend maintained the Gunners recent momentum, but Walcott’s cruciate ligament injury will be a blow to both the club and national sides.

French striker Olivier Giroud is likely to reprise his role up top after overcoming injury and illness, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also back in the reckoning after missing most of the season.

Arsenal have not lost any of their last 14 matches at Villa Park; a run that has stretched over 15 years, but manager Arsene Wenger will have to be on his guard after losing the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium on the opening day of this season.

Hosts Aston Villa were unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Cup last weekend, in a 2-1 defeat to League One side Sheffield United with pressure mounting on boss Paul Lambert.

The Scottish manager has injury doubts over defenders Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker, but Ciaran Clark does return from suspension.

Aston Villa’s victory away at Sunderland on New Year’s Day was the Villains first win in six games in the Premier League, but the form of Christian Benteke remains a worry, especially after Libor Kozak’s broken leg.

Benteke has not scored in 13 hours and 29 minutes of football, with the Belgium international’s season disrupted through injury.

Aston Villa have not scored in five of their last seven games at home and an Arsenal win to nil can be backed as high as 2.40 this weekend.Seven of the last eight meetings between the two sides have finished with three goals or more, but the Gunners carry the best away record going into the match and should see their unbeaten run at Villa Park continue.
