Premier League Relegation Betting Tips

Reading
Reading boast the worst defensive record in the Premier League and conceding almost two goals a game on average has made it virtually impossible for the Royals to win games, despite some resilient battles under Brian McDermott earlier in the year.
Owner Anton Zingarevich has wisely used the international break to change managers, but the Berkshire club remain overwhelming favourites for the drop, regardless of any future appointment.
Reading’s form at the Madejski Stadium has kept the Berkshire club within touching distance, but a seven point deficit at the bottom of the table would appear too much for any new manager to overturn.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are still to come, but home games against Southampton and QPR may delay Reading’s inevitable relegation back into the Championship.
QPR
Harry Redknapp has targeted five wins between now and the end of the season and the upcoming fixtures against Fulham, Wigan, Everton, Stoke and Reading will be crucial if QPR are to meet that goal.
Last weekend’s defeat against Aston Villa deepened the London club’s relegation concerns and despite scoring two goals that day, QPR still boast the Premier League’s bluntest attack.
The arrival of France international Loic Remy does hold some promise and QPR’s chances of survival could be boosted should the former Marseille striker be able to form an effective partnership with Bobby Zamora.
Tony Fernandes’ riches have yet to find a winning formula in the Premier League and despite their heavy financial outlay, QPR look odds-on for the drop this season.
Wigan
Wigan’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle last weekend brought the Latics to within three points of safety and manager Roberto Martinez looks to be once again gearing up for another great escape.
Games against Norwich and QPR look immediately winnable and with an extra game in hand, Wigan could find themselves out of the bottom three by the end of the season.
Martinez may choose to field weakened sides against the likes Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal in the league, but the Latics experience at beating the drop and winning targeted games could prove crucial if Wigan are to survive.
Aston Villa
Last weekend’s win over QPR may have buoyed Paul Lambert’s side, but the Villains still remain deep within a relegation battle.
Aston Villa’s goal difference took a battering via an 8-0 mauling at Stamford Bridge in December and Paul Lambert’s side have been battling that deficit ever since.
Summer signing Christian Benteke has contributed with 13 goals in his debut season in the Premier League, whilst recent goals by Gabby Agbonlahor and the ever-improving Andreas Wiemann point to at least some solace for the Midlands club.
Villa travel to the DW Stadium on the 19th May in the last game of the season and both clubs could go into that match needing all three points to stay up.
Sunderland
Sunderland have won just one of their last eight games in the Premier League, but defeats against Reading and QPR have labelled the Black Cats as possible relegation contenders.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton are the next four opponents for Sunderland and Martin O’Neill’s side could slip even deeper into trouble over the next month, despite the big-money arrivals of Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher over the summer.
Sunderland have not won in four games at the Stadium of Light and the Black Cats vital form at home will need to be addressed if the north east club are to avoid an unexpected fall into England’s second tier.
Southampton
Southampton’s controversial replacement of Nigel Adkins with Mauricio Pochettino has not yet been completely justified, but last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool was vital for both club and manager.
The Saints have scored more goals than any other side in the bottom half of the table, but Southampton still need to address their tactics, concentration and defensive unit away from home.
On paper, Southampton boast the easiest set of fixtures and a couple of wins on the south coast could be enough for the Saints to retain their Premier League status.
