Premier League Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 1

Gameweek 1 Fantasy Player Picks

GW1 (from): Hart, Reina, Kompany, Rafael, Carragher, Hangeland, Lescott, Tarrabt, Nani, Silva, Downing, Hoolahan, Carroll, Rooney, Zamora

Captain Choices

David Silva (MCI)

Perhaps the most clear cut choice for captain this week is Spanish midfielder David Silva. Manchester City open their Premiership campaign with perhaps the easiest fixture; a home game against newly promoted Swansea. Unlike many for Roberto Mancini’s squad, Silva is assured of significant game time this season and will look to build upon the 4 goals, 9 assists and 20 bonus points from last term.

Wayne Rooney (MUN)

Rooney is just one of a number of England players who will have benefited from the called off international friendly against the Netherlands. Rooney and Manchester United will be in buoyant mood following their accomplished display in the Community Shield, and the England striker will be targeting a return to his 2009/2010 goalscoring numbers. Manchester United are away at the Hawthorns in Gameweek 1.

Andy Carroll (LIV)

With Luis Suarez suffering fatigue after his exertions over the summer, Liverpool’s number 9 looks a more assured choice for the Reds. Carroll might fancy his chances against Sunderland who play away from the Stadium of Light and who also have a number of new faces to blend and gel into their squad. Carroll is likely to feature for the full 90 minutes and should spearhead the attack for Kenny Dalglish.

Nani (MUN)

Nani was one of a number of players to shine on Sunday and the Portuguese’s performance should more than likely merit a full 90 minutes for Sir Alex Ferguson. With West Brom expected to set up a bit more resolutely this season, Nani might prove again to be the spark for the Red Devils.

Transfer Picks

Adel Tarrabt (QPR) – 6.5m

The Moroccan midfielder will be a large influence on Neil Warnock’s side this season. QPR kick off their campaign with a home tie against Bolton who have already picked up a number of bad injuries. Adel Taarabt produced 19 goals and 14 assists last season and QPR’s set piece expert is likely to make a flying start to his campaign.

Wes Hoolahan (NOR) – 5.5m

With Norwich looking to employ a more attacking mentality this season, Wes Hoolahan will find himself at the tip of Paul Lambert’s 4-4-2 diamond formation. Similarly to Tarrabt, Hoolahan is the chief culprit for set pieces and also looks a good bet on the penalty front too. Norwich are away at Wigan.

Bobby Zamora (FUL) – 7.0m

Fulham are already at an advantage in terms of match fitness and sharpness after a successful Europa League qualifying campaign. Zamora has already grabbed a couple of goals so far this season and the England forward should enjoy his time under the more attacking stewardship of Martin Jol. Fulham are at home to Aston Villa in Gameweek 1.
