Manchester United v Bayern Munich – Betting Preview

Sportingly Better takes a look at the best value Champions League betting tips tonight as Manchester United host European champions Bayern Munich.

Champions League Betting Tips

Manchester United (6.50) v Bayern Munich (1.50); Draw (5.00)

European champions Bayern Munich will be looking to continue their march towards Lisbon, with a trip to Old Trafford in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side wrapped up the Bundesliga title in record-breaking fashion after winning 25 of their opening 28 games in the league, but the lure of being the first side to retain the Champions League crown remains the Bavarians biggest challenge.

Bayern Munich will be without influential midfielder Thiago Alcantara, so Manchester United target Toni Kroos may get the nod in midfield.

Phillip Lahm will continue operating as a midfield anchor to cover the back line, whilst Dante’s absence could see midfielder Javi Martinez moved into centre back.

Die FCB have lost just one of their last 13 matches in the competition, but at odds of 1.50 there would be little value in backing Pep Guardiola’s European juggernaut tonight.

Hosts Manchester United secured a morale boosting 4-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend, but the Premier League champions continue to give their opposition plenty of goalscoring opportunities at Old Trafford this season.

David Moyes’ side did at least appear to show a bit more cohesion going forward in that match, but record signing Juan Mata remains ineligible in the competition.

The Red Devils will also be without Rafael at right back, whilst Alex Buttner’s inclusion at left-back in place of the suspended Patrice Evra could give winger Arjen Robben considerable joy from out wide.

Manchester United do however have a strong goalscoring record against German opposition, having netted in each of their last 14 meetings and although leading marksman Robin van Persie remains out, the form of England international Wayne Rooney still offers some encouragement.

Visitors Bayern Munich have looked virtually unstoppable this season and Manchester United’s inadequacies this season, particularly at Old Trafford should give the Bavarians a strong lead heading into the second match at the Allianz Arena.
