Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 8

James Morrison scored his second goal of the season to maintain West Brom’s early form with a 3-2 victory over QPR.

Adam Lallana‘s third consecutive assist helped Southampton secure a 2-2 draw with Fulham, whilst Manchester City and Manchester United both registered their first clean sheets.

Chelsea’s Juan Mata picked up his fourth assist in three games during the Blues’ 4-1 victory over Norwich to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Fernando Torres also scored for the second consecutive game.

Sportingly Better picks out potential captain choices for Gameweek 8 including possible fantasy football transfers.

Captain Choices

Luis Suarez (LIV)

With Fabio Borini out injured, Luis Suarez remains Brendan Rogers’ only striking option at the club.

The Uruguayan striker was Liverpool’s hero in Gameweek 6 with a hat trick against Norwich, taking his Premier League tally to five goals for the season. The introduction of Nuri Sahin should increase the quality and service to the former Ajax striker, who has had more goal attempts inside the box (27) than any other forward.

Opponents Reading are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, conceding seven goals away from home and Suarez looks set to again be Liverpool’s main source of goals.

Santi Cazorla (ARS)

Cazorla picked up his second goal of the season last time out to cap another impressive performance for Arsenal in the 3-1 victory over West Ham.

In terms of involvement and distribution, the Spanish midfielder has been instrumental for the Gunners. A total of 14 through passes have been made by the former Malaga player, nine more than compatriot Juan Mata. Cazorla has made more successful passes in the final third (194) than any other midfielder and is only second to Gareth Bale in terms of crosses from midfield in the Premier League.

Opponents Norwich have conceded four or more goals three times this season, including last time out against Chelsea and Cazorla has all the quality to cause havoc at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Robin Van Persie (MUN)

After seeking improvement with his contribution to the team, Robin Van Persie has picked up an assist in each of the last two gameweeks for his new club.

The Dutch forward remains on five goals for the season, after failing to find the back of the net in each of his last last two games in the Premier League, but Manchester United have scored an average of three goals a game at home and Van Persie will be eager to continue the goal rush at Old Trafford.

Opponents Stoke are a solid outfit, but Van Persie scored three times against Stoke last season and the Manchester United forward will be hoping for a similar return against the Potters this time round.

Transfer Tips

Adam Lallana (SOU) – £6.0m

Southampton’s English midfielder has come to the fore in recent weeks with three assists in his last three games for the South coast side.

Lallana has been instrumental for the Saints since breaking through the academy and scored 11 goals in Southampton’s promotion winning campaign in the Championship last season. Lallana is yet to open his account in the Premier League, but Southampton have failed to score only once this season and the likelihood is that Lallana will find the back of the net sooner rather than later.

Lallana features heavily on set pieces for Southampton and looks a solid transfer choice over the next few months considering the Saints’ run of fixtures.

Leighton Baines (EVE) – £7.5m

Everton‘s left back again demonstrated his fantasy worth with a late penalty at the DW Stadium to rescue a point for Everton.

The goal in Gameweek 7 was Baines‘ second of the season and the England international looks on course to match the four goals scored last year in the Premier League. The threat of Baines and Pienaar down the left is one of Everton‘s biggest assets and the former Wigan defender is a consistent performer for David Moyes.

Everton enjoy a favourable run of fixtures over the next few gameweeks and Baines should close the gap on Ivanovic as the highest point scoring defender in the Premier League.
