Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 24

Theo Walcott’s 18 points for Arsenal were the highlight of Gameweek 23 as the Gunners enjoyed fixtures against Chelsea and West Ham.

Ben Davies’ first goal of the season helped surprise package Swansea defeat Stoke in south Wales, a game which was marked with a brace by on-loan midfielder Jonathan de Guzman.

Elsewhere there were big scores from Oliver Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski, as Arsenal benefited from a double gameweek, whilst David Silva’s brace proved the difference as champions Manchester City beat Fulham.

Sportingly Better picks out the best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 24 as Arsenal entertain Liverpool and Aston Villa host Newcastle.

Captain Choices

Robin Van Persie (MUN)

Absent during Manchester United’s FA Cup victory over Fulham, Robin Van Persie was one of few Premier League players rested by their manager over the weekend.

Van Persie has scored in each of the last five games in the league and along with two assists and seven bonus points, the Dutch striker goes into Gameweek 24 as one of the most in-form players in the Premier League.

The Netherlands international is the Premiership’s leading marksman with 18 goals and the former Arsenal striker has made an instant impact since his arrival in the summer.

Van Persie scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture earlier in the season to rescue all three points for Manchester United and the Dutch striker is well poised to punish the Saints again.

Juan Mata (CHE)

Juan Mata has been one of the few good points about Chelsea this season and the Blues midfielder’s eight goals have already eclipsed last year’s tally of six.

Along with his goal against Arsenal, Mata has picked up three assists and five bonus points over the last three gameweeks for Chelsea.

Rafa Benitez’s decision to bench Mata against Brentford last weekend provides plenty of indication that the Spanish midfielder will feature prominently over the next few weeks, as Chelsea look to cement their position within the Champions League qualification places.

Opponents Reading have found good form of late but the Royals defensive record at home is the second worst in the division and Mata will have to be watched by Brian McDermott’s side on Wednesday.

Transfer Tips

Steven Fletcher (SUN) – £7.1m

Steven Fletcher’s brace against Wigan in Gameweek 23 took the Scotland international’s tally to 10 for the season and the former Wolves striker is well on course to beat his return of 12 goals last season.

Sunderland’s £14 million summer signing has benefited from a return of form by wingers Adam Johnson and James McLean and the left-footed striker remains the Black Cats main threat in attack.

Fletcher has only scored three of his 10 league goals at the Stadium of Light, but the Scottish striker remains a decent transfer option for fantasy managers, given Sunderland’s upcoming fixtures and guaranteed selection by Martin O’Neill.

David Silva (MCI) – £9.4m

David Silva’s brace against Fulham earned the Spain international the maximum of three bonus points during Gameweek 23 and the return of form of Silva could prove crucial to Manchester City who attempt to chase down rivals Manchester United.

The inclusion of holding midfielder Javi Garcia in the wake of Yaya Toure’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations has been key and Garcia’s selection has not only helped the Citizens to three consecutive clean sheets, but also given much needed freedom to Silva.

The Spanish midfielder is on course to equal his score of 184 points last season and the trip to Loftus Road could give Silva plenty of opportunity on Wednesday.
