Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 22

Robin Van Persie’s 16 point haul was the pick of the performances in Gameweek 21 as leaders Manchester United beat Wigan.

Leighton Baines scored his third goal of the season as Everton defeated Newcastle and goals from Joey O’Brien and Mark Noble helped West Ham secure a 2-1 win over Norwich.

Elsewhere Luis Suarez scored his fifth goal in four gameweeks as Liverpool dispatched Sunderland and Gaston Ramirez’s third goal of the season helped Southampton secure a point against Arsenal.

Sportingly Better picks out the best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 22 as leaders Manchester United host rivals Liverpool, whilst Arsenal host champions Manchester City.

Both Chelsea and Southampton play twice in Gameweek 22.

Captain Choices

Juan Mata (CHE)

With Chelsea featuring twice in Gameweek 22, Spanish midfielder Juan Mata will be the obvious choice by many for the captain’s armband this week.

Mata is the Blues’ top points scorer this season and is in good form for Chelsea having either scored or assisted in each of his last five starts in the Premier League.

The Spain international picked up assist points against Gameweek 22 opponents Stoke in the reverse fixture, whilst the clash against Southampton at Stamford Bridge is one the former Valencia midfielder may look forward to.

The Blues will be keen to bounce back from their surprise defeat against QPR and Mata should have a starring role in both games for Chelsea this week.

Demba Ba (CHE)

Senegal striker Demba Ba made the ideal start to his Chelsea career with two goals on his debut against Southampton in the FA Cup last weekend.

Only Luis Suarez and Robin Van Persie have scored more goals in the Premier League than Ba, but the former Newcastle United player also contributes a threat in the air. No striker has scored more headed goals than Demba Ba this season.

Similar to Mata, Ba picked up assist points against Stoke this season, but with a midweek Capital One Cup clash with Swansea on Wednesday, the level of game time Ba may receive in Gameweek 22 is open to debate.

Ba makes an enticing transfer option for fantasy managers with Senegal absent from the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Transfer Tips

Steven Pienaar (EVE) – £6.8m

The combination of Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar down the left hand side has been one of the key parts of Everton’s success this season.

Pienaar is on course for his best ever return in the Premier League and the South African midfielder will also be available for the Toffees during January following his retirement from international football in October.

Three goals in six gameweeks illustrates a good level of consistency for Pienaar, who picked up assist points against Gameweek 22 opponents Swansea earlier in the season.

Rickie Lambert (SOU) – £6.3m

Boosted by a double gameweek, Southampton’s Rickie Lambert is likely to be drafted in by many fantasy managers this weekend.

Only Luis Suarez has enjoyed more penalty box touches than Lambert  (157) and the English striker’s two goals, two assists and five bonus points in the last three gameweeks represent a good run of form going into Gameweek 22.

Lambert scored two goals against Aston Villa in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and the trip to Villa Park could provide similar opportunities with the Aston Villa defence looking increasingly porous.
