Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 2

Manchester United’s defeat at home to Swansea was the most surprising defeat of the round, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all winning.

Sportingly Better picks out the best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 2, as Manchester City host Liverpool.

Captain Choices

Diego Costa (CHE)

Diego Costa scored on his Premier League debut for Chelsea, after netting a simple tap-in at Turf Morr on Monday.

The link-up with fellow countryman Cesc Fabregas was highlighted in last week’s fantasy football tips and that new partnership could prove to be the difference for Chelsea in winning the title this year.

A home match against newly promoted Leicester should offer the Spain international further joy on Saturday, after the Foxes conceded twice on the opening day of the season and Costa’s danger in the box should prove too much for Nigel Pearson’s side this weekend.

Wayne Rooney (MUN)

Wayne Rooney opened his reign as captain of Manchester United with a goal last weekend, but the striker’s overhead kick was not enough for the club to avoid defeat against Swansea.

The England international will be fully determined to pick his side up on Sunday, with a trip to the Stadium of Light next up for the Red Devils.

Rooney’s telling contributions for Manchester United should see the club return back into the Champions League places again this year, but a second defeat would be unthinkable for Louis van Gaal’s side this weekend.

Transfer Tips

Cesc Fabregas (CHE) – £9.1m

A starting role in the double pivot did not stop Chelsea’s new ‘maestro’ from picking up two assists for his new side, including a sumptuous through ball for Andre Schurrle’s goal.

The Spain international pushed forward on a regular basis and a likely lack of attack by opponents Leicester in Gameweek 2 should see Fabregas with plenty of opportunities to play higher up the pitch.

A further price rise looks inevitable over the next few days and with the midfielder having largely taken over set-piece responsibilities, Fabregas should be on course to finish as one of the highest scoring players in fantasy football this season.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (SWA) – £6.2m

Sigurdsson’s instrumental performance helped Swansea to their first ever win at Old Trafford, with the Icelandic midfielder having a hand in both of his team’s goals.

The void of Michu looks set to be perfectly filled by Sigurdsson, who looks set to be the perfect foil for striker Wilfried Bony, after being played wide on the left at Tottenham last season.

Sigurdsson’s goal-to-game ratio in the Premier League is relatively high given the player’s appearances over the last three seasons and with a home fixture against Burnley to come, the Swansea midfielder could be set for further points this weekend.
