Last season Sporting Gijon had the joint worst goalscoring record in the Spanish top flight and 74% of games at the El Molinon finished with just 2 goals or less. This season the picture is much the same, with 3 out of the opening 4 games ending with less than 3 goals. Add to that Sporting Gijon have scored just 3 goals all season and goals are the last thing that should be expected in this game.

Opponents Granada are similarly shot shy with just 2 goals in 7 games. Not surprisingly these two sides are in the relegation zone and dutching on 0-0 and 1-0’s might be a profitable strategy. But on paper this game should follow suit as the division’s weakest attacks come head to head.

After five 0-0 draws on Sunday in Serie A, another likely low scoring encounter is Siena against Cesena. The Cavalluci Marini sit bottom of the pile with just 3 goals scored despite boasting the likes of Candreva, Jorge Martinez and Adrian Mutu. Last season 58% of away games for Cesena finished with 2 goals or less and the fact that their 4 top club goalscorers are no longer at the club suggests goals will be the main worry this season.

Newly promoted Siena have managed just 4 goals themselves, 3 of which came in a home win against Lecce last month. Since then Siena have failed to score and another low scoring game looks in prospect.
