Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster has excelled for the Scottish champions over the last two years; adding some notable displays on the continent against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Joe Hart’s disappointing form leaves Roy Hodgson with the perfect opportunity to try out new goalkeepers this week, with the big frame of Forster likely to feature at some point.

The former Newcastle United goalkeeper is a regular selection at Parkhead and with Ben Foster’s continued injury problems and John Ruddy’s lack of consistency, the Celtic stopper looks an assured bet to make England’s World Cup squad next year.

Chris Smalling

Drafted into Roy Hodgson’s latest squad, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling could find himself featuring for the Three Lions this week.

Capped seven times by England, Smalling’s lack of first team action at Old Trafford could see the former Fulham defender overlooked by Phil Jones in Roy Hodgson’s final line-up, who has enjoyed regular action under David Moyes this season.

With Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill expected to be England’s first-choice centre backs, at least two places will be up for grabs and Manchester United’s emerging duo look set to make the plane to Rio.

Steven Caulker

After scoring in his England debut against Moldova back in September, Steven Caulker has gone on to show his attacking contribution for his new club, by netting twice for Cardiff this term.

An £8 million signing from Tottenham, Caulker was surprisingly overlooked for the latest England squad, but after appearing in every game for the Bluebirds this season, the speculation is that Caulker is not far from Hodgson’s thoughts.

With Jones, Smalling and Lescott seemingly ahead of Caulker in the national pecking order, continued improvements and goalscoring contributions from the player, could see Caulker’s odds continue to fall over the course of the season.

Ashley Young

Overlooked for the latest England squad, Manchester United midfielder Ashley Young has much to do to improve his tarnished reputation.

Selected as recently as September for the Three Lions, Young is an ideal asset for Roy Hodgson; capable of playing anywhere along England’s advanced midfield line in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Injury and a lack of first-team opportunities at Old Trafford has seen the former Aston Villa and Watford player move down the England pecking order, but with Valencia and Nani still not yet performing Young could find his way back into favour for club and country.
