Weekend Football Tips – 1-2 December
Real Madrid’s surprise defeat against Real Betis last weekend raised question marks over the future of Jose Mourinho, with Los Blancos now 11 points behind leaders Barcelona after just 13 games. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both picked up 4-0 wins to continue their fine run of form at the top of La Liga, whilst Osasuna moved out of the relegation zone thanks to a 1-0 win against Rayo Vallecano.
Bayern Munich maintained their 10 point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-0 victory away at Freiburg, with second placed Bayer Leverkusen winning 4-1 away at Werder Bremen. Borussia Dortmund extended their unbeaten run to six games, whilst Dusseldoorf and Nurnberg secured vital wins to climb away from the relegation zone.
Juventus’ defeat at the San Siro reopened the race for the Scudetto, with Napoli, Lazio and Roma all picking up wins. Parma’s surprise victory over Inter moved I Gialloblu up to eighth place in the league, whilst Genoa arrested a run of six straight defeats with a 1-0 win against Atalanta.
There were wins for PSG and Lyon over in France, but the race for Le Championnat still remains wide open. Rennes’ fine run of form came to abrupt end as Evian picked up their second win in three games, whilst St Etienne failed to go top of Ligue 1 after a 0-0 draw with Ajaacio last night.

Barcelona’s formidable run in La Liga continued last weekend after a 4-0 win away at Levante.
Lionel Messi’s second half double against Levante was the Argentina international’s seventh brace in the last 10 games in all competitions.
Messi has scored 82 goals in 2012 and the diminutive forward is closing in on Gerd Muller’s record of most goals in a calendar year, after hitting 85 goals for Bayern Munich and West Germany in 1972.
The form of Cesc Fabregas has also been equally impressive for Barca and the midfielder’s eight assists for Barcelona are the most in La Liga.
Barcelona have only dropped two points this season and Tito Vilanova’s league leaders look set to continue that run of form on Saturday.
Visitors Athletic Bilbao have never been relegated from La Liga, but Los Leones remain just four points above the relegation zone.
Athletic Bilbao’s traditional dominance at San Mames has been missing this season with just three wins in seven games and the speculation surrounding the future of Fernando Llorente continues to surround the club.
Striker Aritz Aduriz has stepped in admirably, scoring eight goals in the league, but it’sLos Leones defensive record that is the main worry for Marcelo Bielsa whose side has shipped 18 goals away from home.
Barcelona have won eight in a row at home to Athletic Bilbao and that run looks set to continue this weekend.
