Spanish & Italian Football Tips for the Weekend – 8th & 9th Jan

Serie A this season has been a bit shy on the goals tally and has an under 2.5 goals percentage for the whole league currently standing at 59%. Two of the biggest contributors for this; Cesena and Genoa square off at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi. Only 2 of Cesena’s 7 last league games and only 1 of Genoa’s last 10 games in the Italian top flight has seen 3 or more goals. Cesena and Genoa keep games tight and prioritise a defensive focus. Both sides score less than a goal a game on average and Sunday’s game should see a distinct lack of goals.

At La Rosaleda in 16th place Malaga welcome Athletic Bilbao to Andalusia where both sides have been amongst the goals recently.Los Boquerones have only managed 2 clean sheets all season and all but 1 of Malaga’s home games have gone over the 2.5 goals mark. Europe chasing Bilbao rarely draw. In Fernando Llorente they have a striker of immense quality and the Spanish international usually carries the goalscoring burden for Los Leones. Bilbao’s last 3 games have all featured 3 goals and over 75% of their matches this season have seen over 2.5 goals and Saturday’s encounter should likely see something similar.
