Premiership Predictions – 24-26 August

It was two from two last weekend here at Sportingly Better with Tottenham and Manchester United both winning to leave us in good profit after the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Sportingly Better picks out the best value Premiership predictions and football betting tips this time out, as Fulham host Arsenal.

Premiership Predictions

Fulham (3.80) v Arsenal (2.10); Draw (3.50)

Arsenal bounced back from their opening day defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday, with a convincing 3-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the Champions League and the Gunners look well priced to get off the mark in the Premier League this time around.

Arsenal’s clean sheet in Turkey will have encouraged Arsene Wenger’s defensive ranks, but the Gunners will be without Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny for the trip to Craven Cottage.

The probable return of Santi Cazorla will be a big boost for the north London side, with the Spanish maestro instrumental in the Arsenal midfield last season.

Arsenal are still widely unfancied to finish in the top four places this season, according to the English Premier League betting markets, but late movements in the transfer market could swing the power back to the Emirates Stadium given Tottenham’s failed pursuit of Willian.

The Gunners recorded the best away defensive record in the league last year; a foundation that has seen Arsenal winning each of their last five games on the road.

Hosts Fulham could hand debuts to Darren Bent, Adel Taarabt and Scott Parker this weekend, but the Cottagers traditional dominance at home has waned in recent years, with the west London side having lost each of their last four games at Craven Cottage.

Fulham produced something of a smash-and-grab performance against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last time out, but Martin Jol’s reforming side carry plenty of experience and resilience in this division.

A second defeat for Arsenal in the Premier League would be severely disruptive for Wenger, but with Cazorla back in the side, the Gunners should pick up their first points of the season on Saturday.

Arsenal to win @2.10

Everton (1.57) v West Brom (6.50); Draw (4.20)

Roberto Martinez kicked off his reign as Everton manager with a 2-2 draw against Norwich at Carrow Road last weekend, but the former Wigan manager will be targeting all three points for the visit of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Everton averaged the highest possession figure (67%) out of all the Premier League sides on the opening weekend and the Spanish manager’s passing philosophies appear to have been quickly imbedded by the club’s players.

Ongoing transfer speculation continues to surround Manchester United targets Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini, but both players are expected to take to the field for Saturday’s game at Goodison Park.

Everton have kept a clean sheet in their last five games at home in the Premier League and although the Toffees playing style has begun to change since David Moyes left the club, Martinez’s possession of the ball could see the Merseyside club withstand attacks for significant periods of the game.

Everton have been winning at both half time and full time in their last six matches at home in the Premier League. Back Everton HT/FT at 2.50.

Opponents West Brom seem to carry little threat going forward this year, with the Midland’s side mustering just one shot on target in their opening match against Southampton at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have failed to score in four of their last six games away from home in the Premier League, so the absence and possible retirement of former France international Nicolas Anelka is less than ideal.

The loss of Romelu Lukaku is beginning to be more keenly felt at the club, with Championship Player of the Year Matej Vydra likely to be given a starting place for Saturday’s game.

West Brom have lost nine of their last 10 matches in the Premier League and the lack of significant reinforcements, has left the Baggies as a considered outside bet in the Premier League relegation betting market.

Everton dropped just four points from a possible 21 in their last seven home games at Goodison Park last season and the Toffees look well priced to open their home campaign with a win.
