Premiership Predictions – 1-2 February

Sunderland’s victory over Stoke last weekend in the Premier League kick-started our Premier League tips in good fashion, but our odds-against selections in backing Manchester City to win and over 2.5 goals (2.60) and over 3.5 goals (2.37) on Sunday saw us deliver a huge return from our free football tips.

Sportingly Better picks out the best Premiership predictions this week, as Newcastle host Sunderland in the Tyne and Wear derby.

Premiership Betting Tips

Newcastle (1.95) v Sunderland (4.33); Draw (3.50)

Sunderland moved out of the relegation zone for the first time since August as an early Adam Johnson strike secured the Black Cats all three points.

Gus Poyet has galvanised his inherited and somewhat disjointed squad, but the signings of Ignacio Scocco, Marcos Alonso and Liam Bridcutt are likely to offer the Uruguayan coach greater options and quality at the club.

Sunderland have lost just one of their last eight games in the Premier League, whilst the Black Cats have gone on a five match unbeaten run away from home.

Opponents Newcastle suffered a huge blow to their European aspirations, as playmaker Yohan Cabaye secured a £19 million move to PSG.

The Magpies have yet to bring in a replacement, but January loanee Luuk De Jong will be keen to impress the Toon Army if the striker is handed his debut by manager Alan Pardew.

Newcastle have won just one of their last five matches in the Premier League, scoring just three goals in that time, so the timing of Loic Remy’s three-match ban could be costly for the Magpies, given Papiss Cisse is also an injury doubt.

A win on Saturday would give Sunderland a third successive win over their rivals, but the loss of Yohan Cabaye along with the absence of Loic Remy could give the resurgent visitors enough impetus to secure more vital points.

Hull (3.80) v Tottenham (2.15); Draw (3.40)

Hull suffered their fourth successive defeat in the Premier League, as relegation rivals Crystal Palace secured a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park.

The Tigers have earned nearly four times as many points at the KC Stadium (18) as they have away from home (5), but the absence of midfielder Jake Livermore could be crucial, with the on-loan midfielder ineligible to face his parent club.

Hull have failed to score in any of their last four games in the Premier League despite the signings of Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic, but Steve Bruce’s side might quietly fancy themselves to score against Tottenham, who conceded five goals last time out.

Opponents Spurs will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat at White Hart Lane, with the club edging further and further away from a top-four finish.

Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood may choose to revert back to a 4-4-2 formation, so Roberto Soldado may partner Emmanuel Adebayor up front.

Only Arsenal (26) have collected more points on the road than Tottenham (25) this season and Tim Sherwood’s decision to revert back to a more attacking line-up could pay dividends for the new coach this weekend.
