The called off game at Bloomfield Road provides title gunning clubs Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal added impetus to close the gap on the leaders at the start of the busiest period in the football calendar.

Two of the newly promoted sides this term meet at the Hawthorns as West Brom take on Newcastle. West Brom have doubts over a number of players who have been key for them this season so far in the shape of Chris Brunt, Odemwingie, Morrison and Scharner. Newcastle can boast an in-form goal scorer in Andy Carroll and have a formidable record against The Baggies having done the double over them in the last two seasons in the top flight and are unbeaten in 17 meetings. The deadball here looks a strong option.

Goals are normally few and far between at St Andrews with only 12 goals on show so far this season. With the injury of Van der Vaart and missed penalties galore for Spurs this on paper could see a low return of goals on Saturday. But Tottenham are fast getting the tag of ‘Comeback Kings’ and seem to have installed a ‘Never Say Die’ attitude akin to Manchester United. Parallels can also be seen in the late goals that Spurs seem to score . Indeed this fixture is prone to them. In 5 of the last 6 meetings there have been 90th minute goals. Incredibly half of Birminghams 18 goals they have conceded so far this season have occurred straight after the beginning of the second half (45-60 minutes). Birmingham have scored 62.5% of all their goals and conceded 83.3% of all their goals in the second half.

Arsenal are simply too low to back for me this weekend but have some favourable statistics in the match against Fulham at the Emirates. Fulham have not won away in 25 league matches and Arsenal have not only never lost to Fulham at home but also are unbeaten in 15 league games in the December period. Mark Schwarzer has recently signed a new contract at Fulham amidst speculation earlier in the season over a move ironically to Arsenal and may put in a spirited display. But Arsenal have scored 10 goals in the last 4 games and I fancy the flying Dutchman Robin Van Persie, should he start to find the back of the net and who scored in both matches against Fulham last season.

Robin Van Persie to score anytime @1.9
