Premiership Betting Tips
Southampton (5.25) v Manchester City (1.75); Draw (3.80)
Southampton slipped to their third defeat in a row on Wednesday, as Aston Villa recorded a 3-2 victory.
Maurico Pochettino’s side have slipped down to eighth in the league, but a win on Saturday would reinforce the Saints European ambitions this term.
Injuries to deep-lying midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama have rocked the boat defensively, with the Saints having failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five games in the Premier League.
First choice defenders Nathaniel Clyne and Jose Fonte are also unlikely to feature, so the odds on the visitors to score two or more goals at 1.72 will no doubt hold some appeal, particularly with the Citizens having scored at least two goals in 13 of their last 16 games in the Premier League.
Opponents Manchester City picked up their third win on the bounce on Tuesday, as a brace from Yaya Toure secured a 3-2 win at the Hawthorns.
Manuel Pellegrini’s record away from the comfort of the Etihad Stadium has come under scrutiny, but the Chilean manager could record back-to-back wins away from home with a win at St Mary’s this weekend.
Manchester City have fired in a total of 40 goals in the Premier League so far, with in-form striker Sergio Aguero having scored 10 goals in his last nine appearances in the league.
A total of nine goals were scored in the two meetings between the two sides last season and Southampton’s increasing injury list looks set to cost the club further points again this weekend.
