Premier League Tips – 13-14 August

The English Premier League kicks-off this weekend with reigning champions Leicester facing Hull.

This week we look to oppose the Tigers in the opening round of Premier League bets, whilst taking on the goals market in the clash at the Riverside between Middlesbrough and Stoke.

Football Betting Tips

Hull (3.50) v Leicester (2.05); Draw (3.30)

Fairytale champions Leicester City begin the defence of their title away to Hull City, who continue to be embroiled in turmoil.

Former manager Steve Bruce resigned two weeks ago during pre-season and the Tigers look set to virtually be the whipping boys of the top flight this term, with a combination of injuries and lack of player recruitment severely affecting their playing roster.

Bruce made clear his view that the Hull squad needed to substantially improve to stand any chance of survival in the Premier League, but the club have failed to bring any players which ultimately led to his resignation. The managerless Tigers are no closer to confirming an appointment and in all likelihood interim-coach Mike Phelan looks set to lead the club beyond Match Day 1 as the summer transfer window continues to draw in.

Visitor’s Leicester showed glimpses of their title-winning form against Manchester United in the Community Shield last Sunday, but the loss of protection from N’Golo Kante may ultimately see the Foxes far more vulnerable and cavalier this time around.

Jamie Vardy’s decision to sign a new contract and snub Arsenal will have been a boost for the East Midland’s outfit and if the club can keep hold of star turn Riyad Mahrez then the Foxes will find themselves in decent shape going into the season.

Vardy has already found himself amongst the goals and opposing Hull throughout the whole campaign may well be a sensible tactic, with the club seemingly facing an uphill struggle to remain competitive in the English top flight.

Middlesbrough (2.20) v Stoke (3.40); Draw (3.20)

Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough have enjoyed a very commendable summer of business so far, with highly-rated manager Aitor Karanka bringing in a raft of players including Victor Valdes, Alvaro Negredo and Viktor Fischer.

Boro will be hoping for better success in the Premier League than their previous attempt in the 2008/2009 campaign where they were relegated on 32 points and scored a measly 28 goals from 38 games, but a sense of quiet optimism does seem to surround the North East club who have a good run of fixtures to get some points on the board early on.

Visitors Stoke City have had a largely quiet transfer window but Joe Allen and Egytptian Ramadan Sobhi will continue to add quality and style to an increasingly palatable style of play under Mark Hughes.

The biggest news for the Potters this summer was to tie down Marko Arnautovic at the club and along with the return of Ryan Shawcross and Jack Butland in the backline, Stoke do look capable of a top-half finish once again.

Hosts Middlesbrough will be optimistic about their chances this weekend, but Mark Hughes’ visitors should at least hit the back of the net on Saturday at the Riverside.
