Premier League Predictions – 29-30 September

Manchester United were unconvincing during last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Anfield, leaving Liverpool still in search of their first win of the season.

Southampton secured a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa, but Reading slipped to their third successive defeat against West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Chelsea kept their place at the top of the Premier League following Ashley Cole’s late goal, after Manchester City were held by Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

Premiership Betting Tips

Everton have made an unusually fast start in the league this season and find themselves in the top three after a run of three wins from the opening five games.

Tuesday’s Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Leeds was unexpected and the threat of Marouane Fellaini was expertly quashed by the tactics and doubling up chosen by Neil Warnock. David Moyes made six changes to the side that won at the Liberty Stadium, but Everton looked a lot brighter after the break following the introductions of Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic.

Howard, Pienaar and Jagielka are all likely to be recalled on Saturday for Everton who have had more attempts on goal than any side in the Premier League this season.

Opponents Southampton picked up their first points of the season coming from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 4-1 at the St Mary’s Stadium. The Saints have the worst defensive record in the Premiership after conceding 15 goals in five games and experienced goalkeeper Kelvin Davis has dropped to the bench following a series of less than competent displays.

Southampton have been encouraging going forward and Liverpool fan Rickie Lambert has popped up with four goals for the South coast side. The supporting cast of Adam Lallana and record signing Gaston Ramirez provide a cutting edge for Southampton who are the division’s fifth top goal scorers.

Southampton have a healthy goalscoring record in the league; finding the net in four out of five games and goals should be found at both ends of the pitch at Goodison Park on Saturday.
