Premier League Predictions – 12-13 January

QPR’s surprise victory at Stamford Bridge last time out brought Harry Redknapp’s side back in contention of beating the drop, whilst relegation rivals Reading and Wigan both suffered defeats.

Champions Manchester City rounded off a comfortable win against Stoke at the Etihad Stadium, leaders Manchester United were in full swing at the DW Stadium, whilst Tottenham moved into third place following their win at White Hart Lane.

A win over Sunderland for Liverpool hiked the Reds up to eighth in the league, but city rivals Everton remain in Champions League contention following victory against Newcastle.

This week our Premiership betting tips come from the North West of England as Manchester United welcome rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford.

Premiership Betting Tips

Manchester United (1.90) v Liverpool (4.20); Draw (3.80)

With champions Manchester City not playing until later on Sunday, league leaders Manchester United could be 10 points clear of their city neighbours, albeit temporarily.

Manchester United are the most in-form team going into the weekend, having won eight of their last nine games in the league, but perhaps more significantly, the Red Devils managed to pick up back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season.

The presence of captain Nemanja Vidic has clearly had an impact on the back-line, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson has conceded that both Vidic and Rio Ferdinand will likely be susceptible to rotation this season.

Rooney remains missing for Manchester United, but Javier Hernandez has looked sharp and full of goals since deputising for the England international. Portuguese midfielders Anderson and Nani continue to endure injury prone seasons, casting doubts over their future at Old Trafford.

The wide play of Rafael and Antonio Valencia down the right hand side could cause opponents Liverpool problems, but the biggest threat remains that of Premier League top goal scorer Robin Van Persie who has scored 16 goals this season including one against Liverpool in September.

Visitors Liverpool have won five out of their last seven games in the Premier League and the 3-0 victory over Sunderland last time out highlighted the continued improvement that the Reds are making this season under Brendan Rodgers.

The addition of Daniel Sturridge will give Rodgers much needed options up front, but whether the former Chelsea striker will start alongside Luis Suarez on Sunday remains to be seen.

Jose Enrique, Fabio Borini and Martin Kelly remain long-term absentees for Liverpool who have lost eight of their last nine matches against Manchester United at Old Trafford in all competitions.

With the form of Van Persie and a full compliment of defenders now available to Ferguson, leaders Manchester United look too strong for their bitter rivals on Sunday.
