Captain Choices

Dimitar Berbatov
Berbatov is in a rich vein of form having scored 5 goals in his last 2 games and is looking an increasingly vital player for Manchester United this season. The majority of the Bulgarian strikers goals so far have come at Old Trafford (15 out of 19) and will surely look to add to his already impressive goals haul this season.

Cesc Fabregas
The Arsenal captain has already scored against this week’s opponents Everton back in November. The Spanish midfielder has picked up 2 assists in his last 4 matches for Arsenal and could go well again at the Emirates this time around.

After hitting a hatrick against Wigan Athletic last time out, Robin Van Persie is also another strong contender for the Gunners.

Fernando Torres
The Spanish striker has written a transfer request and it looks more likely when rather than if Liverpool’s number 9 will leave. Should he stay this transfer window then he looks a strong choice for captain this week after hitting 2 against Wolves just over a week ago. Liverpool seem to have a bit more belief about them under Kenny Dalglish and have a favourable fixture at home to Stoke.

Transfer Options

Theo Walcott – 6.9m
As highlighted last week Theo Walcott is currently one of the form midfielders in the Premier League with 3 assists and 1 goal in his last two appearances. Expect Theo’s stock to continue to rise this season (should he stay fit) and his pace might cause trouble especially against attacking left back Leighton Baines this gameweek.

Clint Dempsey – 6.9m
Dempsey has really stepped up to the mark recently for Fulham with 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 4 games. Dempsey has scored 6 of his 8 goals at Craven Cottage and this week’s visitors Newcastle might give him the opportunity to add to that.

Depending on transfer value Demba Ba of West Ham might be a good striking option. The striker has been courted amongst others by Stoke and should he start might fancy his luck of a debut goal against Blackpool’s backline.

World Cup star Luis Suarez potentially of Liverpool should be a definite pick regardless of the Torres saga. The Uruguayan striker has an extremely impressive goals return in the Eredivisie in the past few seasons and is a excellent capture for Liverpool’s new American owners.
