Gameweek 5 Fantasy Player Picks
GW5 (from): Given, Foster, Kompany, Hutton, Shawcross, Cahill, Baines, Walcott, Wright-Phillips, Arteta, Jarvis, Silva, Rooney, Odemwingie, Van Persie
Captain Choices
Robin Van Persie (ARS)
Despite another unconvincing display from Arsenal, the Gunners on paper have an easier gameweek than the other top sides with an away trip to Ewood Park and Robin Van Persie is again the man to watch after scoring midweek in the Champions League. The Dutch forward is still Arsenal’s key player, but the arrival of Scott Dann at Blackburn could make his task much more difficult on Saturday.
Other Contenders: Mikel Arteta, Gervinho, Theo Walcott
Wayne Rooney (MUN)
A difficult fixture lies ahead for the champions but Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are in imperious form. The England striker has scored back to back hat tricks to take his goal tally up to 8 goals already this season but the visit of Andre Vilas-Boas’ Chelsea will be a test for Manchester United’s number 10. Rooney’s partnership with Ashley Young has blossomed and both players should prove again to be United’s inspiration.
Other Contenders: Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez
David Silva (MCI)
Last season Manchester City had an away day to remember with a 4-1 victory at Craven Cottage. Fantasy managers were left disappointed with Roberto Mancini’s rotation and the omission of Edin Dzeko last time out, but David Silva is a safer choice having only missed 12 minutes of action so far. Silva is in stunning form with 2 goals scored in the opening 2 games and a further 2 assists were picked up last time out against Wigan. The Spanish international looks set to again express himself on the pitch.
Other Contenders: Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri
Transfer Picks
Shaun Wright-Phillips (QPR) – 6.4m
Neil Warnock was full of praise for his new look QPR side and Shaun Wright-Phillips was certainly one new arrival who caught the eye. The former Manchester City winger is certainly more than capable of contributing to QPR’s cause and at 6.4m is cheaper than Adel Taarabt. With striking options limited, Neil Warnock will be hoping for goals from his midfield as QPR face Wolves at Molineux.
Peter Odemwingie (WBA) – 7.4m
West Brom’s Nigerian striker celebrated his first start of the season with a goal and 3 bonus points against Norwich last time out. Odemwingie showed his pedigree in the Premiership last season picking up 15 goals and West Brom have a good run of fixtures to look forward to with Swansea, Fulham, Sunderland and Wolves the next four teams up against Roy Hodgson’s side.
Alan Hutton (AVL) – 5.0m
Aston Villa’s transfer deadline day signing provides a solid and good value choice at the back for fantasy managers. Having worked with manager Alex McLeish at both Rangers and Scotland, Hutton looks set to feature regularly for Aston Villa at right back. With Newcastle’s attacking options limited, Hutton seems a good choice for defensive points this gameweek.
