Premier League Betting Tips – 1-2 March

A late goal from captain John Terry saw us win our only free football tip last weekend, as Chelsea secured a vital win to remain top of the Premier League.

Sportingly Better picks out the best Premiership predictions this week, as Southampton host Liverpool.

Premier League Betting Tips

Southampton (3.75) v Liverpool (2.05); Draw (3.70)

Southampton’s six-match unbeaten run in the Premier League swiftly came to an end, as goals from Matt Jarvis, Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan gave West Ham a 3-1 victory at Upton Park.

Motivation will be key for Mauricio Pochettino’s side between now and the end of the season, with the Saints eight points clear of the Hammers in ninth place and with little hope of making the top six.

The south coast club will be boosted by the return of Vincent Wanyama to add some much needed steel and tenacity to the centre of the midfield, whilst defender Jos Hooiveld is Pochettino’s only absentee.

Southampton have a terrific record against Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium having won all three of their last matches on the south coast in all competitions, but the recent form of Daniel Sturridge will severely test that short winning run.

The Saints have managed just one clean sheet in their last seven matches at home in the Premier League and the visit of the Premiership’s top scorers will unlikely see that record getting any better.

Opponents Liverpool picked up their third win on the bounce as goals from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson secured the Reds a 4-3 win over Swansea.

That victory was the fourth match in a row that Brendan Rodgers’ side have failed to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League, but the Merseyside club’s defensive record remains even more alarming considering that the Reds have conceded two or more goals in eight of their last 10 matches on the road.

Lucas Leiva, Mamadou Sakho and Jose Enrique all remain sidelined, but right back Glen Johnson is in contention to start.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are unbeaten in eight Premier League matches and a win in the late kick-off on Saturday would reaffirm the Reds desire to finish in the Champions League places this term.

Southampton have scored two or more goals in five of their last six home matches against Liverpool in all competitions and an entertaining affair looks likely on the south coast this weekend.

Everton (1.53) v West Ham (7.50); Draw (4.20)

West Ham will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games in the Premier League, after a 3-1 victory over Southampton.

Goals from Matt Jarvis, Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan on Saturday meant that not only have the Hammers won each of their last four games in the division, but Sam Allardyce’s side have also netted two or more goals in each one of those victories. Andy Carroll is also available after serving a suspension.

West Ham have conceded just once in over five games of Premiership football and the defensive partnership of James Tomkins and James Collins remains difficult to break down and to unsettle.

Hosts Everton suffered their third defeat in four matches, as a late John Terry goal gave Chelsea a vital three points in west London.

The Toffees will be eager to get back to Merseyside, where the club have won eight of their opening 12 matches at Goodison Park, losing just once, whilst the return to fitness of striker Romelu Lukaku remains a big plus.

Everton have scored two or more goals in eight of their last nine matches against West Ham in all competitions and although recent results and West Ham’s defensive record have cast doubts on that record extending, Roberto Martinez’s side remain odds on to score at least twice again at 1.57.

A win for West Ham would edge the east London club to within six points of the magical 40 point mark and although the Hammers are unlikely to inflict a defeat on Everton at Goodison Park this weekend, the in-form visitors should maintain their competitiveness and recent form.
