Premiership Betting – Transfer Special
With Christian Benteke and Luis Suarez both looking to leave their current clubs, Sportingly Better takes a look at the best football predictions in the transfer betting markets.
Tuesday’s news that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke had submitted a transfer request left manager Paul Lambert “hugely disappointed” with the player, as Premier League sides Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham contemplate making a bid.
Favourites Tottenham (1.73) continue to receive significant backing, having recently lost out on the signing of Barcelona forward David Villa, so a move for the highly rated Belgium international would seem to appeal to manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Spurs have been short of striking options for some time and with Emmanuel Adebayor expected to make a summer switch to Besiktas, Tottenham appear to be the suitor with the most urgency.
Arsenal too have also been in pursuit of high-calibre attacking options, with a £30m bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez instantly rejected. The Gunners number one target continues to be that of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, with the player’s father and representatives having expressed an interest in sounding out a deal with the club.
Like Arsenal, Chelsea appear to be after bigger targets with Napoli striker Edinson Cavani top of Jose Mourinho‘s wish list. The Italian club’s asking price may be too exorbitant for the west London club, but it is unlikely that Mourinho will turn his attention to Benteke after just one season in top flight European football.
Benteke scored 19 goals for Aston Villa in the Premier League last season and the loss of the PFA Young Player of the Year nominee would be a deadly blow to the Midlands club’s ambitions this season.
It’s important that people appreciate we are trying to build something strong and vibrant here at the club, something this club demands and stands for, and we want Christian to be part of that.”
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert
With Chelsea and Arsenal chasing more illustrious targets, it could be Tottenham who secure the signature of Aston Villa’s highly rated 22-year old striker.

Luis Suarez’s has once again reiterated his desire to play in the Champions League and the Uruguay international’s time in Merseyside appears to be almost over.
Premier League side Arsenal have been the first to make a move with a bid of £30m and although the Gunners retain favouritism for the Uruguayn’s signature at 1.61, it is La Liga side Real Madrid who appear to be Suarez’s preferred destination.
Suarez has spoken publicly about his disenchantment in England, so a move within the Premier League seems unlikely, especially given the controversial forwards ongoing disciplinary problems.
Suarez’s agent Pere Guardiola has reportedly held separate meetings with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre recently, with the player once again expressing his need to be playing in Europe’s most elite competition.
Guardiola is the brother of new Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola and with Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski not scheduled to join the Bavarians until 2014, the German champions could be an interesting bet at 21.00 to conclude a big-money deal for the Uruguay international this summer.
