Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 5
There was a blast from the Icelandic past last weekend as Sigurdsson served us a reminder of just how potent he is in front of goal with a brace against Norwich. This earned him a massive haul of 16 points, benefiting from debutant, Eriksen’s creativity.
With United’s upcoming run of kind fixtures following the Manchester derby, Rooney (£10.5m) showed us that he’s a viable alternative to the RVP conundrum with a well taken free-kick along with the maximum bonus point allocation, giving him 9 points whilst Van Persie only managed 6.
In addition, Ben Arfa continued his fine form with another goal away at Villa, whilst collecting an assist in the process too. On Monday night, Shelvey had a match to remember, having a hand in all 4 goals in the 2-2 cracker between Swansea and Liverpool. Despite making two glaring errors to set up Sturridge and Moses, his contributions at the other end of the field saved his blushes and helped him to 12 points and a spot in the Dream Team.

Captain Choices
Daniel Sturridge (LIV)
Sturridge kept up his impressive record of scoring in every game of the season so far, by capitalising on a terrible back pass from Shelvey in Gameweek 4. He will once again be the point of attack in Liverpool’s home game against Southampton this weekend.
Confidence will be flowing through his veins and he’ll be looking to reinforce his position as the central striker with Suarez set to return in Gameweek 6. Coutinho is set for a spell on the sidelines but Sturridge will receive plenty of support from Moses, Gerrard and Aspas.
Hatem Ben Arfa (NEW)
As mentioned earlier in this post, Ben Arfa continued his fine form with a goal and an assist at Villa Park last weekend to record an important away victory. The talented Frenchman is now the highest points scoring midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League.
Since Newcastle were on the wrong end of a 4-0 result to Man City in the opening gameweek, they have won two games and drawn one to turn their fortunes around. With Hull conceding twice in each of their last 2 away games, Ben Arfa has an ideal home game to continue his goalscoring form.
Theo Walcott (ARS)
Walcott was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet last weekend when Arsenal faced Sunderland, despite having 4 attempts at goal. This was put right in Arsenal’s Champions League match where he lashed home a close range volley to open the scoring in their 2-1 win over Marseille.
With Europe’s top creator, Mesut Ozil sitting in behind, constantly looking for delicious through balls to release, Walcott is sure to receive plenty more supply this weekend, where Arsenal take on Stoke.
This is by no means a simple 3 points, as Stoke have started the season very well under Mark Hughes. However, Arsenal are currently full of confidence and the home advantage will play a significant factor in determining which team has the most chances to find the back of the net.
Transfer Tips
Victor Moses (LIV) – £6.2m
With Chelsea’s abundance of attacking midfielders, Liverpool were able to snap up Victor Moses on a season-long loan and instantly rewarded Rodgers in his first Premier League appearance of the season with a goal. This helped him to pick up the maximum 3 bonus points and a total of 10 points from the match against Swansea.
Coming in at a very respectable £6.2m, he is a budget midfield option that will help you to cover Liverpool’s attack in a favourable run of fixtures where they face Southampton, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and West Brom in their next 5 league games.
With a promising debut and little competition, Moses is sure to be given plenty of time to impress as the left wing forward in Liverpool’s three-pronged attack.
Christian Eriksen (TOT) – £8.1m
Another debutant that caught the eye was young Danish playmaker, Christian Eriksen, who has already risen in value by £0.1m since Gameweek 4. Eriksen looked instantly at home in the central midfield for Spurs, pulling the strings and always looking for a decisive pass. His assist for Sigurdsson’s goal showed amazing awareness as he used his Jedi skills to play the pass without even looking at the Icelandic finisher.
At the young age of only 21 and with such natural talent, it makes you wonder why no one else challenged Spurs for his signing. Coming in for a reported £11m, Spurs have got a future star on their hands.
With AVB leaving Eriksen out of tonight’s starting lineup for their Europa League match against Tromso, it shows how important he has already become to the Spurs team. At only £8.1m, he offers great value for those who are looking to Spurs attacking coverage and a real alternative to Soldado.
