Football Tips For The Weekend – 7-8 April

Lille’s 2-1 victory over Toulouse last weekend brought the French Ligue 1 champions within six points of joint leaders Montpellier and PSG in the fight for the French Le Championnat.

Les Dogues have now won three games on the bounce with Eden Hazard instrumental throughout. The widely courted midfielder has scored three goals and set up four more in just three appearances for LOSC. Lille have lost just twice away from home, winning seven, including three of their last five.

Opponents this weekend are Brest who sit just one place above the relegation zone level on points with Caen and Sochaux. Brest have lost four games on the bounce in Ligue 1 and also boast the bluntest attack in the division. Brest have scored just 24 goals all season and selling former striker Nolan Roux to Lille in January may prove costly.

With Lille looking to keep their Le Championnat hopes alive, expect LOSC to come away with three points on Saturday.

Real Madrid scored five in Pamplona against Osasuna in a tie many tipped to be potentially tricky for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Real have scored 18 goals in just four games, recording back to back 5-1 victories in La Liga and securing a place in the Champions League semi-finals. Only Barcelona and Malaga have taken points of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu this season and Real have scored four goals or more in 11 of 15 games at home this season.

Opponents Valencia have been dreadful in 2012, winning just three games in the league since the turn of the year. Valencia’s Champions League hopes remain in real danger and the progression in the Europa League has undoubtedly hampered their league form.

With Cristiano Ronaldo vying for the Pichichi against Lionel Messi, expect the goals to continue to flow at the Bernabeu this weekend.
