Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 23
Eden Hazard’s 19 points were the pick of Gameweek 22 as Chelsea enjoyed fixtures against Stoke and Southampton.
Nemanja Vidic scored his first goal of the season as leaders Manchester United defeated Liverpool and Carlos Tevez picked up two assists as champions Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Elsewhere Jimmy Kebe’s goal and assist at the Madejski Stadium, helped Reading secure a vital win over West Brom, whilst Nathaniel Clyne, Jason Puncheon and Rickie Lambert all enjoyed good points hauls as Southampton picked up a bonus fixture.
Sportingly Better picks out the best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 23 as Tottenham welcome leaders Manchester United and European champions Chelsea host Arsenal.
Both Arsenal and West Ham play twice in Gameweek 23.
Captain Choices
Theo Walcott (ARS)
Poised to sign a new contract, Arsenal’s Theo Walcott goes into Gameweek 23 as the most in-form player in the Premier League.
Walcott has scored four goals, picked up four assists and claimed four bonus points in the last five gameweeks for the Gunners and the former Southampton player looks set to improve on his tally of 169 fantasy points from last season.
Arsenal’s top goal scorer in the Premier League has enjoyed a more forward role over the last couple of months under Arsene Wenger and fixtures against Chelsea and West Ham provide plenty of opportunity still further.
Walcott enjoyed a good return against the Hammers back in Gameweek 7, after scoring and grabbing an assist at Upton Park and the in-form England international looks well placed to make the most of Arsenal’s double gameweek.
Santi Cazorla (ARS)
Arsenal’s summer signing from Malaga has been a regular for Arsene Wenger this season, but 18.9% of managers have seen a low return from the Spanish midfielder over the festive period.
Cazorla however, remains key for Arsenal and the Gunners’ play remains highly geared around the midfielder.
No midfielder in the Premier League has made more touches in the opposition half (1413) or final third (880) than Cazorla and Cazorla’s 546 passes received in the final third is also a division high.
Cazorla, like Walcott has form against Gameweek 23 opponents West Ham, after netting in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and the Spanish midfielder will again be instrumental for much of the Gunners’ play this weekend.
Transfer Tips
Adam Johnson (SUN) – £6.7m
With Sunderland boasting good fixtures over the next three gameweeks, England international Adam Johnson could be a good addition for fantasy managers.
The former Manchester City and Middlesbrough winger has scored four goals and picked up five assists since his move to Tyneside in the summer and the English midfielder looks set to surpass his previous record of 104 points two seasons ago.
Johnson endured a slow start to his career at the Stadium of Light, but the Black Cats’ midfielder has been a consistent performer for Martin O’Neill over the last couple of months.
Opponents Wigan have not kept a clean sheet at the DW Stadium this season and Johnson could enjoy success out wide against the Latics’ three man defence.
Romelu Lukaku (WBA) – £6.5m
The news that Lukaku will not be recalled by parent club Chelsea in January could be key to West Brom, amid increasing speculation surrounding the future of striker Peter Odemwingie.
The Belgium international scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season last weekend, but was unable to prevent the Baggies from going down 3-2 at Reading.
Only Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez has a better shot accuracy than Lukaku, who has scored three goals in the last two gameweeks for West Brom.
Steve Clarke’s side have a good record at the Hawthorns this season and Lukaku looks more than capable of scoring against Aston Villa, who have the joint-worst defensive record in the Premier League.
