Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 2
Manchester City’s Yaya Toure proved to be the pick of the round during Gameweek 1, with two goals during the Citizens 3-0 victory at the Hawthorns.
Guest blogger Ashil Parekh picks out his best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 2, as champions Chelsea travel to the Etihad Stadium.
Captain Choices
Wayne Rooney (MUN)
Despite a lacklustre performance from Manchester United last weekend, Gameweek 1 pick Wayne Rooney managed to pick up assist points following Kyle Walker’s own goal, which gave Louis van Gaal’s side all three points.
A trip to Villa Park on Friday night may leave the Red Devils playing far more openly than they did last Saturday against Tottenham and the player’s record against the Villains offers hope that United’s focal attacking piece could pick up fantasy points this weekend.
Opponents Aston Villa have made large-scale changes to their playing roster this year and despite the likes of Micah Richards and Jordan Amavi strengthening Tim Sherwood’s backline, expect Louis van Gaal to allow Manchester United more attacking intent in Gameweek 2.
Harry Kane (TOT)
A lack of support left Harry Kane unable to make much of an impact in the game at Old Trafford last weekend, but the England international did make a good start to the match after setting up Christian Eriksen for Tottenham’s best chance in the game after five minutes.
A gruelling summer has left some scepticism over whether Kane can replicate his breakthrough season for Spurs last season, but despite playing in Tottenham’s post-season tour of Australia and in the European U21 Championship, Kane looked relatively bright and sharp in the first half.
The visit of Stoke may afford Kane more support and chances in Gameweek 2, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side eager to add the club’s first points on the board this season.
Transfer Tips
Dimitri Payet (WHU) – £7.5m
West Ham’s marquee signing picked off where he left off, with an assist as his free-kick against Arsenal was misjudged by goalkeeper Petr Cech to allow Cheikhou Kouyate to nod in the Hammers’ first goal.
Only Kevin De Bruyne (20) claimed more assists than Payet (18) last season and at £7.5m, Payet could prove to be an early differential, with plenty of midfielders catching the eye during Gameweek 1.
Slaven Bilic’s new dynamic option could prove to be one of the revelations of the season according to teammate Adrian, with the player having created as many as six chances on his Premier League debut.
Opponents Leicester picked up an entertaining victory 4-2 but early defensive concerns for the Foxes could see Payet continue his fantasy points haul into Gameweek 2.
Saido Mané (SOU) – £8.0m
Saido Mané’s two chances in injury time could have given Southampton all three points at St James’ Park, but the Senegalese forward saw his efforts blocked and drift inches wide of the post.
Mané attempted more than 15 shots on goal against Newcastle and although the midfielder offers pace and versatility out wide for the south coast club, Mané’s positioning was at times ahead of striker Graziano Pelle for Ronald Koeman’s side.
A home tie against Everton may not be the easiest of fixtures this round, but the Saints have had a good pre-season qualifying for the Europa League and with a good run of fixtures on the horizon, Mané looks primed to fire in a few goals over the next few gameweeks.
