Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 9

Raheem Sterling scored his first goal in the Premier League, helping Liverpool secure their first win at Anfield this season.

Chelsea’s Juan Mata maintained his superb recent form with a brace and an assist during Chelsea’s 4-2 victory at White Hart Lane, whilst Belgium Eden Hazard picked up a couple of assists.

Southampton’s Adam Lallana bagged his first goal in the Premier League, but it was not enough to prevent the Saints going down 4-1 away at West Ham. Kevin Nolan scored his fourth goal of the season, with Mark Noble grabbing a brace for the Hammers.

Sportingly Better picks out potential captain choices for Gameweek 9 including possible fantasy football transfers in the Premier League.

Captain Choices

Gareth Bale (TOT)

Absent during Gameweek 8, Gareth Bale was sorely missed by Tottenham during their 4-2 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

Bale’s two goals and three assists this season have almost entirely come away from home and the return to the south coast will add extra spice for the clash with Southampton.

Bale has been a regular for manager Andre Villas-Boas in the Premier League and the Welsh international has fired in an impressive 63 crosses for Spurs. As a goal threat only Santi Cazorla (32) and Marouane Fellaini (30) have attempted more shots on goal than Bale (26) and the midfielder will be keen to show Saints fans his progression as a player.

Opponents Southampton have the worst defensive record in the Premier League and are yet to keep a clean sheet and Bale’s pace and power should cause plenty of problems for the Saints on Sunday.

Sergio Aguero (MCI)

The rotation from coach Roberto Mancini is clearly a threat to fantasy managers contemplating captaining a Manchester City striker this gameweek, but Sergio Aguero has showed his quality with two goals in four games since his return from injury.

Aguero finished last season as the club’s top goalscorer during Manchester City’s title winning campaign and the Argentine forward excelled at the Etihad Stadium with 16 of his 23 goals arriving at Eastlands.

Opponents Swansea lost this fixture 4-0 last year, a game which saw Aguero score twice and Swansea could be in for a similar scoreline on Saturday.

Swansea have not recorded a clean sheet for six games and Aguero will be confident of adding to his tally in Manchester.

Transfer Tips

Asmir Begovic (STO) – £4.7m

Asmir Begovic is the most in-form stopper in the Premier League and is yet to miss a minute of football for Stoke this season.

The four goals conceded against Manchester United may raise question marks, but Stoke have shut out both Arsenal and Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium this season.

Two clean sheets in the last three gameweeks highlights the potential return for the Bosnian international who can only be beaten by Chelsea’s Petr Cech in recording shut outs in goal.

Opponents Sunderland are far from heavy scorers and Begovic will be hoping to pick up his fourth clean sheet of the season in the comfort of the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Demba Ba (NEW) – £8.3m

The Premier League’s joint top goal scorer picked up his first assist of the season in Gameweek 8’s derby draw with Sunderland.

The Senegalese striker has been a constant figure for Alan Pardew and only Luis Suarez (50) and Jermaine Defoe (43) have attempted more shots on goal than Ba (33) who has scored six goals for the club.

Opponents West Brom have made an impressive start to the season, but the Baggies are yet to keep a clean sheet away from the Hawthorns.

Demba Ba scored a brace in this fixture last season and the Senegalese striker remains the Magpies main threat this weekend.
