Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 5

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic scored his first two goals of the season as Southampton shot down Norwich 3-0 in Gameweek 4, whilst Andre Ayew continued his impressive performance for the month with a goal and an assist as Swansea picked up victory against Manchester United.

Guest blogger Ashil Parekh picks out his best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 5, as Manchester United face rivals Liverpool in the late kick-off on Saturday.

Captain Choices

Riyad Mahrez (LEI)

Few players have made quite the impact this season in the Premier League than Leicester City’s burgeoning star.

No player has been selected more than midfielder Riyad Mahrez (38.5%), who has in some quarters been linked with Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Algeria international has a renewed belief and his direct attacking play has so far seen more than 12 shots on goal in the last four games for the club.

Opponents Aston Villa have yet to find a solidity after a massive summer recruitment drive and with Leicester unbeaten in eight Premier League games, expect Mahrez to be in the thick of the action once again for the Foxes.

Bafetimbi Gomis (SWA)

Bafetimbi Gomis will be looking to make it five goals in as many games as the Swans travel to Watford this weekend.

Garry Monk’s focal point in the side’s attack has been reaffirmed by his goals this season and crucially two weeks ago against Manchester United, where the link-up play with former teammate Andre Ayew continues to grow.

Gomis is one of few strikers in the Premier League who has consistently found the back of the net this season and a fifth match against the Hornets could leave the French striker with further spoils this gameweek.

Transfer Tips

Alexis Sanchez (ARS) – £11.0m

Chilean sensation Alexis Sanchez endeared himself even further to the Copa America champions, with a goal during the international break and the former Barcelona forward will be hoping to kick-start his club campaign for Arsenal after a long summer of football.

Sanchez has yet to pick up more than an assist this season and with the Gunners having failed to score in five of their last six home matches, the expectation of an Arsenal win may not be as straight forward with Mark Hughe’s side visiting the Emirates Stadium.

Sanchez fired in 16 goals in the Premier League last year and the dynamic forward looks on course to bag his first goal for Arsenal this season after encouraging displays on international duty.

Aleksander Kolarov (MCI) – £5.8m

League leaders Manchester City are yet to concede a goal in four matches, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side winning each game to nil.

The stability at the back has seen Aleksander Kolarov start every single game and crucially the injury to fellow left-back Gael Clichy should see the powerful Serbian defender avoid the risk of rotation over the next two months.

No player has made more accurate crosses in Premier League this season than Kolarov (10) and the player’s fair share of set pieces, should stand the defender in good stead in terms of his attacking potential, particularly if the full back can get behind the likes of Sako and Zaha in the Crystal Palace third.
