Captain Choices

Santi Cazorla (ARS)

Doubts surrounding Theo Walcott has left Spanish playmaker Santi Cazorla as the emerging candidate for the captain’s armband this week, with Reading the visitors to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Cazorla has amassed 11 goals in his debut campaign in the Premier League and the former Malaga star continues to be central to Arsenal’s play.

Opponents Reading have the worst defensive record in the league and the Royals go into the weekend having not recorded a clean sheet in any of their last nine games in the Premiership.

Cazorla scored 23 points in the reverse fixture back in December and the Spanish pass-master will be looking to torment the Royals once again on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney (MUN)

Wayne Rooney’s deflected first half strike was enough to give Manchester United all three points against Reading last time out and the England international has begun to outshine strike partner Robin Van Persie in recent weeks.

Five goals in six games has propelled Rooney up the form charts, whilst goals against San Marino and Montenegro for England will have buoyed the forward’s confidence.

Opponents Sunderland have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six games in the Premier League and the Black Cats are in danger of being relegated after a run of seven games without victory.

Rooney was on target in the reverse fixture back in December and despite a rotation risk this weekend, the Manchester United striker looks set for a starting role against Sunderland on Saturday.

Luis Suarez (LIV)

A run of four goals in four games has seen Luis Suarez overtake Robin Van Persie at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts, but the Uruguayan striker will be looking to cancel out his blank last time out, as Liverpool travel to Villa Park.

The impact of Daniel Sturridge and Phillipe Coutinho does not seem to have affected the talented forward’s returns too much, with Suarez picking up 44 points in the last four gameweeks and the Uruguay international has showed glimpses of linking up with well both players.

Opponents Aston Villa are on a run of 14 games without a clean sheet and the Premier League’s top marksman will be looking to add to his tally of 22 goals this weekend.

Transfer Tips

Andros Townsend (QPR) – £4.5m

Andros Townsend followed up his dipping volley in Gameweek 29 with another strike against against Aston Villa and the on-loan midfielder continues to be snapped up as a leading differential going into the final stages of the season.

Harry Redknapp’s decision to field Townsend on the right of the midfield has allowed the promising youngster the freedom to cut inside on his favoured left foot and the Tottenham loanee looks set to play a huge part in QPR’s end of season run-in.

Opponents Fulham have kept just four clean sheets at Craven Cottage all season and the England Under-21 international will be keen to put in another good performance for his new side on Monday.

Dimitar Berbatov (FUL) – £6.9m

Dimitar Berbatov took his tally to 11 goals for the season last time out, after firing in the only goal of the game, as Fulham beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

The Bulgarian striker has now netted in each of his last three appearances in the Premier League and the forward’s collection of 8 bonus points over the last three gameweeks, illustrates just how much the former Manchester United striker has been involved in the Cottagers recent run of good form.

Opponents QPR have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five matches in the Premier League and Fulham’s in-form striker should once again be the main protagonist for Martin Jol’s side.

Phillipe Coutinho (LIV) – £6.8m

Phillipe Coutinho scored for the second time in the league since moving from Inter Milan in January, but the Brazilian’s slotted finish was not enough for Liverpool to claim victory, as Southampton came away with all three points on the south coast.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino described the Liverpool forward as being ‘similar to Messi’ and the Brazilian’s return of two goals and two assists in just 289 minutes of Premier League football points to much promise.

Opponents Aston Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 14 games in the league and the Brazilian midfielder continues to show signs of encouragement for Liverpool.
