Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 14

Gareth Bale scored for the second week in a row as Tottenham overcame West Ham 3-1, with Spurs striker Jermain Defoe bagging a brace.

Steven Naismith picked up his second goal in as many games as Everton were held to a 1-1 draw against Norwich, whilst Stoke recorded a fifth clean sheet at home in a 1-0 win over Fulham.

Sportingly Better picks out the best choices for the captain’s armband this week, as well which fantasy football transfers to make in Gameweek 14.

Captain Choices

Robin Van Persie (MUN)

Robin Van Persie continues to lose ground to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez in the scoring charts, but last year’s Golden Boot winner will be desperate to get back to scoring ways against West Ham at Old Trafford.

The form of Javier Hernandez has overshadowed the Dutch marksmen in recent weeks, but Van Persie has still scored eight goals from 42 attempts on goal; the best conversion rate of any striker in the top 10. Van Persie has featured in every game for Manchester United this season and the Holland international looks set for a starring role against the Hammers on Wednesday night.

Opponents West Ham conceded three goals last time out against Tottenham and Sam Allardyce’s relatively solid back line looks set to again be tested this week against Manchester United.

David Silva (MCI)

With Roberto Mancini again choosing to rotate his forward line, Spanish midfielder David Silva remains the most reliable option for the Citizens this week.

Since his return from injury, Silva has contributed one goal, three assists and four bonus points in the last three gameweeks and the Spain international is being increasingly snapped up by fantasy managers.

Hosts Wigan have conceded seven goals in the last three games in the Premier League and the creativity and support play of Silva should cause the Latics back-line of three a problem on Wednesday.

Transfer Tips

Charlie Adam (STK) – £6.6m

Stoke’s summer recruit has finally found his feet this season with two goals in three gameweeks.

Charlie Adam has a good record in the Premier League since his arrival from Scotland and picked up 11 assists and a couple of goals last year for Liverpool. Adam’s standout season was for Blackpool two years ago, where the Scottish midfielder produced nine assists and 12 goals for Ian Holloway’s amiable side.

Opponents Newcastle have not registered a clean sheet for eight games and the Magpies could struggle in the Potteries against a Stoke side who have just conceded one goal at the Britannia Stadium this season.

Stephane Sessegnon (SUN) – £7.3m

Goals against Fulham and West Brom ended an eight-month goal drought for Stephane Sessegnon and the Beninese midfielder has recently revealed that he is now playing with much more confidence in the Premier League.

Despite signing a new contract in the summer, Sessegnon has spent much of the season distracted by transfer speculation, leaving the Benin international is some way short of his tally of seven goals and 12 assists last year.

Opponents QPR have failed to keep a clean sheet on the road this season and the African midfielder will be keen to extend his recent run of form for the Black Cats.
