Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 13

David Silva’s return to the first team helped Manchester City to a 5-0 win over Aston Villa, whilst Luis Suarez continued his recent goalscoring run by scoring twice in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Wigan.

Santi Cazorla picked up his fourth goal and fourth assist of the season as Arsenal overcame rivals Tottenham 5-2 in the north London derby and Norwich picked up their fifth clean sheet of the season in a surprise 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

Sportingly Better picks out the best bets for the captain’s armband this week as well as a selection of fantasy football transfers to make in Gameweek 13.

Captain Choices

Robin Van Persie (MUN)

Robin Van Persie has not gone more than two games without a goal in the Premier League this season and the withdrawal from Europe will have left the Dutch striker suitably rested for The Red Devil’s clash with QPR this weekend.

The clinical striker enjoys one of the best conversion rates in the Premier League, with the Dutch forward’s 27 attempts inside the box leading to eight goals.

Opponents QPR sit bottom of the Premier League table and despite the presence of Julio Cesar in goal, the London club have yet to keep a clean sheet away from home.

Van Persie has history against QPR after netting for Arsenal last season and the clinical striker will be tasked with firing the goals to ensure that Manchester United return to winning ways on Saturday.

Luis Suarez (LIV)

Luis Suarez’s brace against Wigan at Anfield last weekend left the Uruguayan striker two goals clear of Demba Ba and Robin Van Persie in the Premier League goal scoring charts.

Five goals in four games leaves Suarez as the most in-form player in the Premier League and the seven bonus points accumulated in the last three gameweeks illustrates just how vital the striker is to The Reds cause.

No striker has had more penalty box touches (132) and attempted more shots (72) than Suarez this season and the £10.3 million valuation still holds value for fantasy managers.

Opponents Swansea have gone 10 games without registering a clean sheet and the in-form striker will again be the main threat for Liverpool this weekend.

Transfer Tips

David Silva (MCI) – £9.3m

Manchester City’s return to the top of the Premier League table has coincided with the return of David Silva and the Spanish midfielder has scored one goal, layed on two others and picked up four bonus points in the last two gameweeks.

The Spain international’s season-low price of £9.3m makes the Manchester City player an attractive transfer, with the midfielder’s price widely expected to rise over the coming days.

Silva picked up 17 assists last season and the support play of the former Valencia midfielder could prove crucial for Roberto Mancini’s side this season.

Opponents Chelsea have gone seven games without a clean sheet and the creativity of Silva could cause manager-less Chelsea problems on Sunday.

Peter Odemwingie (WBA) – £6.9m

Peter Odemwingie’s winner against Chelsea last weekend left West Brom fourth in the table, after a run of seven wins in 12 games.

The Nigerian striker scored his fourth goal of the season last weekend and the former Lokomotiv Moscow striker looks again set to hit double figures in the Premier League; a tally he has reached in both of his last two seasons in the top flight.

Opponents Sunderland picked up a vital win on Sunday, but the 3-1 victory over Fulham was the ninth time in 12 games that Sunderland have failed to record a clean sheet.

Odemwingie has traditionally shined during the winter months and ‘Peter Snow’ could cause problems for The Black Cats on Saturday.

Gareth Bale (TOT) – £9.7m

Gareth Bale’s consolation goal against Arsenal last weekend was the Welsh midfielder’s fourth of the season and the recent slump by Spurs will need to quickly be arrested if Tottenham are to push for a Champions League place this season.

Bale has fired in more crosses (61) than any other midfielder and the Wales international’s 38 attempts on goal is second only to Santi Cazorla and Marouane Fellaini.

Opponents West Ham have picked up five clean sheets this season but Tottenham and Bale will be desperate not to lose any further ground in the league this season.
