Fantasy Football Tips – Gameweek 1

With the Premier League season finally under way, Sportingly Better picks out the best fantasy football tips for Gameweek 1, as Manchester United host Swansea.

Captain Choices

Wayne Rooney (MUN)

Wayne Rooney will be hoping to immediately repay Louis van Gaal’s faith in him, after being handed the Manchester United captaincy this season.

The England international has looked rejuvenated and hungry during pre-season and a series of well taken goals could point to an improvement on the striker’s tally of 17 goals last term.

Strike partner Robin van Persie’s involvement remains unclear and with Swansea’s back-line much changed, Rooney will be eager to test the Swans resolve at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Diego Costa (CHE)

Diego Costa’s title-winning efforts for Atletico Madrid may have exhausted the striker for the World Cup finals, but the Spanish forward has looked back at his productive best during pre-season for Chelsea.

Didier Drogba’s injury will almost certainly give Costa an early run in the team, whilst the arrival of fellow countryman Cesc Fabregas should give the Spain international plenty of through balls to look out for.

A trip to Turf Moor on Monday night should give the title favourites a chance to open their campaign with a win and Costa’s quality and composure in front of goal should prove too strong for the Premier League newcomers.

Transfer Tips

Steven Caulker (QPR) – £5.0m

A summer switch to Loftus Road proved to be Steven Caulker’s reward for a fine campaign at relegated Cardiff, with the defender set to be installed as first-choice centre back for Harry Redknapp’s side this season.

The English defender is expected to improve upon his clean sheet tally of seven shut-outs from last term, with Gameweek 1 opponents Hull having sold striker Shane Long to Southampton days before the start of the season.

An attacking contribution of five goals last term highlights Caulker’s threat from set-plays and the English defender’s stock may continue to rise still further over the course of the season.

Aaron Ramsey (ARS) – £9.0m

Currently the most selected midfielder in Fantasy Premier League, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will be hoping to build upon his impressive return for the Gunners last season, which saw nine assists and 10 goals scored.

The summer arrival of Alexis Sanchez will likely give Arsenal even more of an explosive outlet up front and on the break, but the late arrival of Ramsey in the box could offer Arsene Wenger’s side some much needed clinicism.

Tony Pulis’s surprise departure from Crystal Palace this week will have likely rocked the Eagles hopes for the forthcoming campaign and Ramsey’s superb start last year may again be replicated this time around.
