FA Cup Final 2013 – Betting Tips

The FA Cup final takes centre stage this weekend, as Manchester City take on Wigan at Wembley Stadium.

Sportingly Better picks out the best football predictions for the FA Cup final as Wigan look to win their first ever major trophy.

FA Cup Final Predictions

Manchester City (1.33) v Wigan (9.50); Draw (6.50)

Wigan are hoping to lift their first major trophy in the club’s 81 year history, but the Latics are overwhelming underdogs going into Saturday’s final.

Roberto Martinez could be without five first choice defenders with Antolin Alcaraz likely to join Maynor Figueroa, Ivan Ramis, Ronnie Stam and Jean Beausejour on the sidelines.

Should Alcaraz fail to overcome his injury then Ben Watson could be deployed in front of a back two, with the English midfielder tasked with slotting into a back three for the Latics when required.

Midfielder Jordi Gomez will have to settle for a place on the bench, despite scoring three goals in the competition, but Callum McManaman should retain his place in the Wigan starting line-up after impressing in recent weeks.

Wigan Probable XI

Robles, Scharner, Caldwell, Alcaraz, Boyce, McArthur, McCarthy, Espinoza, McManaman, Kone, Maloney

The Latics overcame Macclesfield, Huddersfield and Millwall to get to the final, but it was Wigan’s 3-0 win at Goodison Park in the FA Cup quarter finals that really caught the eye.

Opponents Manchester City have won the FA Cup as recently as two years ago and the Citizens go into Saturday’s match as heavy favourites to lift the trophy.

The Citizens welcome back fit-again Yaya Toure who scored the winning goal in the 2011 FA Cup final and the powerful midfielder could prove crucial in overrunning Wigan’s midfield on Saturday.

Roberto Mancini has virtually a fully fit squad to choose from, but the Italian tactician will have to decide between Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri in attack, with striker Edin Dzeko expected to again be named on the bench.

Manchester City Probable XI

Pantilimon, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy, Barry, Toure, Milner, Silva, Tevez, Aguero

Manchester City navigated their way past Stoke, Leeds, Barnsley and Chelsea to get to the final and the Citizens are heavily fancied to go on and lift the 142nd edition of the FA Cup.

Manchester City have won each of their last seven meetings against Wigan without conceding a single goal and despite the Latics endeavour and guile, another Manchester City clean sheet remains odds-on.

Wigan’s recent defending and injury concerns at the back are unlikely to stop the competition’s joint-top scorers from finding the net on Saturday, with Roberto Mancini all set to secure his only piece of silverware this season.
