FA Cup Betting Tips – 29-31 January

This week our free football tips come in the FA Cup as Manchester City travel to Villa Park and Championship leaders Hull take on Bury.

FA Cup Betting Tips

Aston Villa (5.00) v Manchester City (1.70); Draw (3.70)

Remi Garde’s side can count themselves very fortunate to be in the 4th round of the FA Cup as they required a replay against League 2 side Wycombe to confirm their place in the next round. Manchester City meanwhile had no problem casting aside Norwich City at Carrow Road with a comfortable 3-0 victory and they will be confident that they can knockout another struggling Premier League side in the 4th round.

Aston Villa can take some confidence in the fact that they’re five games unbeaten but that includes the two poor performances over Wycombe and a dismal 0-0 display at rivals West Brom last time out. Villa were the better side for large periods of the game but given their precarious position in the league they need victories and not draws.

Manchester City go from strength to strength despite the rumours circulating at the club that Manuel Pellegrini is stepping aside for Pep Guardiola which seems absurd given their still in the hunt for all four competitions they’re competing in. A 4-3 aggregate win over Everton has booked their place in the final of the Capital One Cup and they trail Leicester City by just three points in the Premier League. The Champions League draw has also been favourable to them in comparison to recent years so the club really is putting unwanted and undeserved pressure on Pellegrini to succeed.

Aston Villa can’t afford to lose concentration on the main objective which is Premier League survival so I can’t see them putting all their efforts into the FA Cup and their opponents have far too much strength in depth to not get the win.

Bury (4.33) v Hull (1.91); Draw (3.30)

Steve Bruce has done a magnificent job at Hull City this season and they currently lead the Championship table. They’ve managed four victories in a row with a clean sheet in each game against some strong sides including Brighton and Cardiff City. Brighton were the opposition in the 3rd round of the competition and despite resting some of his key players, Bruce’s side were able to progress.

Bury knocked out League 1 side Bradford City in the 3rd round, winning the replay at Valley Parade on penalties despite playing 80 minutes of the game with 10 men. It was a monumental effort from Bury to grind out the win and they’ve backed that up with four points from a possible six in the past two league games.

These two sides haven’t met since 2003 but Hull City are a much stronger outfit and despite the FA Cup being known for an upset, Hull City have too much firepower amongst their artillery to be one of them shocks. Abel Hernandez has fired in 15 league goals this season and although he’s expected to be rested they can still call on the likes of Sone Aluke and Adama Diomande to lead the line.
