Our football tips for today come from the south coast as Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth take on Premier League side Wigan.

Todays Football Tips

Bournemouth (2.80) v Wigan (2.60); Draw (3.50)

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez called the knee ligament injury that ruled out defender Ivan Ramis as a “massive blow” to the club and the Latics will have to do without the Spanish defender for the rest of the season.

Last weekend’s draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage, highlighted the attacking threat Wigan enjoy, despite the departure of Arouna Kone to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Franco Di Santo scored his first Premier League goal in three months and the Italian striker fired in numerous shots and looking dangerous, especially when cutting in from the left.

Martinez is expected to make a number of changes for the clash at Dean Court and Manchester United’s on-loan striker Angelo Henriquez could be set for his first start for the Latics. The 18 year old striker looked sharp in the original tie after being introduced in the second half and even hit the bar at the DW Stadium.

Fraser Fyvie and Jordi Gomez are both expected to start in midfield as Wigan look to conserve their resources for the Premier League clash with Sunderland on Saturday.

Wigan do not have a good record in the FA Cup and have been knocked out in the third round in six of the last 10 years. The Latics have also failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last seven FA Cup ties against teams from lower divisions.

Hosts Bournemouth have not lost since Eddie Howe returned to Dean Court, a run that now stretches to 18 games.

Top scorer Lewis Grabban is expected to start following his comeback from injury, whilst Wes Thomas could also return to the Cherries line up.

Bournemouth have won eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions, scoring 24 goals during that time and their recent record at Dean Court has also been packed full with goals.

Like Wigan, Bournemouth have not kept a tight ship in the FA Cup and the Cherries have only managed one clean sheet in 10 FA Cup matches over the last five seasons.

With pressing league agendas for both sides, tonight’s encounter at Dean Court could feature plenty of goals and Eddie Howe’s in-form League One side could provide the shock of the round on the south coast.
