European Weekend Football Tips 27th & 28th August

The Spanish Primera Liga finally gets underway after weeks of player strikes regarding a guaranteed player wage fund.

Athletic Bilbao kick off with a home fixture against newly promoted Rayo Vallecano and Los Leones are formidable at San Mames. Last season Athletic Bilbao won 12 games at home and have a strong record against teams graded in the bottom half of the table and newly promoted sides. Athletic Bilbao have kept star striker Fernando Llorente and have also added midfield playmaker Ander from Real Zaragoza, who showed glimpses of his talent in the recent European U21 Championship.

Opponents Rayo Vallecano had a good away record last season, but a trip to the San Mames is an altogether different affair.

Athletic Bilbao to win @1.57

Bayern Munich have won 4 games on the bounce in all competitions and the Bavarians have yet to concede in that run. Rafinha, Jerome Boateng and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer are all settling in well and opponents Kaiserslautern look unlikely to break through Bayern’s rearguard.

Kaiserslautern are yet to win this season and have already faced 14th placed Augsburg and 18th placed Cologne. Kaiserslautern lost star striker Srdjan Lakic to Wolfsburg in the summer and have only managed 2 goals so far in their 3 Bundesliga games. Last season Kaiserslautern’s 5 defeats at the Fritz-Walton-Stadion were all to nil and Bayern Munich seem well placed to continue that statistic, especially given the loss of Lakic.
