European Weekend Football Tips 23rd & 24th April

After finishing 12th last year in Ligue 1, Nancy find themselves in a relegation battle and even Bordeaux in 10th place might not feel entirely safe yet, lying only 6 points above the drop zone. On Sunday Les Chardons face already relegated Arles and with only 1 win all season many in France are of the opinion that Les Lions are the worst side to have ever graced the French top flight.

Arles have not scored in their last 4 away games and on average concede over 2 goals a game away from Parc des Sport. Form that has seen Arles relegated with 7 games still left on the calendar. Nancy have only lost once in their last 6 games, picking up clean sheets in 4 of these games. With top scorer Youssoyf Hadji returning, Nancy should pick up a valuable 3 points in their fight for Ligue 1 safety.

A mid-table clash between Sporting Gijon and Espanyol might not be overwhelmed by goals. Under Manuel Preciado, Rojiblancos keep it tight especially at home with only Barcelona penetrating their back-line in 7 games. 13 of 16 games at El Molinon have finished with less than 3 goals including the last 7 games. Sporting Gijon are in good form despite losing to Real Sociedad last time out and have beaten Real Madrid earlier this month.

Espanyol still harbour hopes of Europa League qualification and will want to come away with a positive result, but Periquitos have only won twice in their last 12 games and after a promising first half of the season are fading fast. Espanyol have not scored away from Estadi Cornella-El Prat in 4 games and will have to keep it tight to pick up any kind of result against a rigid Sporting Gijon.
