European Weekend Football Tips 13th & 14th August

Marseille got their title challenge off to a slow start last weekend, with Lucho Gonzalez and the in form Loic Remy both scoring in a 2-2 draw against Sochaux.

Opponents for Marseille are Auxerre who suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Montpellier. Auxerre have already lost Benoit Pedretti, Ireneusz Jelen and Jean-Pascal Mignot, whilst midfielder Delvin Ntinga is expected to be the next player to leave the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps.

Marseille were encouraging last weekend with Loic Remy particularly pleasing. Marseille may look to use the pace of Mathieu Valbuena, André Ayew and Loic Remy in attack, as l’OM look to secure their first win of the season and pick up three valuable points away from home.

Bayern Munich suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend and will be looking to bounce back against a very capable Wolfsburg side.

Bayern Munich have been busy in the transfer market with Jerome Boateng and Manual Neuer brought in. Both are expected to improve the Bavarian rearguard, although the former Schalke goalkeeper was at fault for Igor de Camargo’s goal. Bayern still look good going forward and Muller, Gomez and Robben all started the game alongside Toni Kroos who is expected to have a strong campaign this term.

Opponents Wolfsburg can also boast an array of attacking talent. Patrick Helmes scored twice in last weekend’s 3-0 win over FC Cologne and there is also Mario Mandzukic, Diego, Srdjan Lakic and captain Christian Trasch to call upon.

With attacking quality on both sides goals look likely as Bayern Munich bid to bounce back from opening day defeat.
