European Football Tips For The Weekend – 28-29 January

Barcelona do not have the best record at El Madrigal losing 5 of 12 visits, but Pep Guardiola has won all 3 of his trips to Vilarreal and the Catalans will need to keep the pressure on Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid side who are leading La Liga by 5 points.

Vilarreal however are a markedly different side to the one that finished 4th last term and currently occupy 17th position in the Spanish top flight. Leading marksman Guieseppe Rossi picked up a season long injury back in October and the loss of Santi Cazorla over the summer in particular was a big loss. Former reserve team coach Jose Molina has been brought in until the end of the season and managed to pick up a vital 3 points over Sporting Gijon last time out.

Barcelona picked up injuries to Iniesta and Alexis Sanchez in the week, which may force the likes of Thiago and Cesc Fabregas to start in Vilarreal, but Barca have scored 8 goals in their last three away games in the league and the odds on overs are inviting this weekend.

Claudio Ranieri’s Inter Milan are the most in-form side in Serie A and are now just 6 points behind leaders Juventus after winning 7 games on the bounce.

Strikers Diego Milito and Giampaolo Pazzini are in good goalscoring form and this weekend’s opponents are Lecce who have not won at the Via Del Mare all season.  Lecce have by some margin the worst home record in Serie A and the Giallorossi have conceded an average of two goals a game at home so far this season.

Inter Milan lost to Napoli in the Coppa Italia during the week, but Claudio Ranieri’s side should have far too much for relegation threatened Lecce, who have won just once in their last 9 games in the league.
