Europa League Predictions 10th March

German side Bayer Leverkusen progressed with consummate ease into the Europa League quarter finals after a 6-0 aggregate win over Metalist Kharkiv. Next up for Jupp Heynckes is Vilarreal and El Submarino Amarillo are in a curious patch of form at the moment with only 2 wins in 8 games in all competitions. Vilarreal’s most recent form is hardly encouraging. Defeats against Deportivo, Levante and Atletico Madrid as well as being held by Racing and Malaga does not make for good reading for fans of the Spanish outfit. Bayer Leverkusen on the other hand have won 5 of their last 6 games and are well in amongst the goals at the moment.

Benfica have been somewhat overshadowed domestically with Porto’s 2o wins and 2 draws so far in Primeria Liga, masterminded by the hugely talented André Villas-Boas. But Benfica have their own talents, particularly on the pitch going forward with the likes of Cardozo, Aimar, Saviola and the increasingly scouted Fabio Coentrao. Benfica progressed to the Europa League quarter finals after dispatching Stuttgart 4-1 on aggregate. Benfica suffered a loss against Sporting last time out, but before that won 18 games on the bounce in all competitions. Indeed the loss against Sporting was not helped by a goal 13 minutes from time and playing more than half the match with 10 men.

Quarter final opponents PSG made hard work of getting passed BATE Borisov. PSG have won 3 out of their last 8 games, although one of which required extra time in the Coupe de France against Le Mans. Benfica should get back to winning ways in a competition they will quietly think they can go far in.
