Copa America Football Tips for the Weekend 9th & 10th July
With the hosts Argentina booed off the pitch and slipping away in Group A after two consecutive draws, dark horses Colombia will know that a win will see them finish winners of Group A and more importantly face one of two best third placed teams.
Colombia are unbeaten in Group A and opened their campaign with a laboured 1-0 victory over 10 man Costa Rica, although at times towards the end of the first half showed some good attacking movement and passes and glimpses of the talent in their attack. The following 0-0 draw with Argentina was one that Colombia might feel they should have won with Ramos and particularly Moreno both guilty of bad misses.
Last time out opponents Bolivia suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to a youthful Costa Rica side, but playing the last 20 minutes with 9 men and the suspensions for Rivero and Flores will be a blow for Gustavo Quinteros. Colombia are quietly fancied and should pick up the win that on paper will ensure a favourable draw for the quarter finals.
Colombia to win @1.61
Peru will have been happy with a point from their opening 1-1 draw with Uruguay as Diego Forlan wasted a glorious chance. Paolo Guerrero and Juan Manual Vargas were as predicted the stand out players for Sergio Markarian’s side and the duo will again need to shine if Peru are to continue their progression in the Copa America, which has seen them reach the quarter final in the last five editions of the tournament.
Chile were much the better side in Group C when they faced Peru’s opponents Mexico and probably should have won by more than a 1 goal margin. Assistant Luis Fernando Tena’s side is a greatly reduced and inexperienced one compared to the North American Gold Cup winners from the previous month. Peru to win by 1 goal @3.75 looks particularly good value, but Markarian has the experience to pick up a positive result and take a vital step to help Peru again reach the quarter finals.
Peru 0AH (Asian Handicap) @1.775
