Copa America Quarter Final Football Tips For The Weekend

Colombia qualified for the Copa America quarter finals ahead of hosts Argentina picking up 2 wins and 1 draw in Group A. Colombia have yet to concede a goal so far in the competition and the defensive duo of AC Milan’s Mario Yepes and Udinese’s Cristian Zapata have shut up shop particularly well. With quarter final opponents Peru currently forced to favour the lone striker of Paolo Guerrero up top, another clean sheet could be on the cards.

The quarter final stage always seems to be a step too far for Peru, with the South American side being knocked out at this stage in each of the last 4 editions of the Copa America. In fairness Sergio Markarian has done well to navigate out of the group stages without the attacking services of Claudio Pizzaro and in particular Jefferson Farfan. The odds of Colombia to win to nil are particularly inviting @2.75, but with Falcao bagging a brace last time out there is plenty enough value in the Colombia win in 90 minutes to book their place in the semi-finals against either Argentina or Uruguay.

Surprise package Venezuela for the second edition in a row, have managed to reach the quarter finals of the Copa America after doing so 4 years ago on home soil. Coach Cesar Farias’s side finished unbeaten in Group B, but two late goals against Paraguay in the last group game rescued a point and illustrated the belief in the squad amongst Farias’ youngsters.

Claudio Borghi has begun to answer his doubters after finishing top of Group C with 2 wins and 1 draw, but the hard work starts now for the man charged with replacing Marcelo Bielsa. Quality such as Barcelona-bound Alexis Sanchez and the heavily courted Arturo Vidal, will probably prove enough to ensure Chile reach the semi-finals for only the second time in the last 8 editions of the Copa America.
