The knockout stages of Champions League resumes this week, but it is Juventus, AC Milan and Bayern Munich that take healthy leads into the second legs.

Today’s Champions League predictions come from Old Trafford as Manchester United entertain Real Madrid.

Todays Football Tips

Manchester United (3.10) v Real Madrid (2.30); Draw (3.70)

Three weeks ago the spoils were shared in the Bernabeu, but it is Jose Mourinho’s side who are the overwhelming favourites to progress from the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Since then, Real Madrid have gone on to win four games on the bounce including two el Clasico victories, despite resting the likes of Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo during the last meeting with Barcelona.

Iker Casillas remains doubtful for los Blancos, so Diego Lopez should continue to deputise in goal. Mourinho will have to decide between Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain once again in attack, but Real Madrid are likely to look immediately for goals in order to cancel out Danny Welbeck’s strike in the first leg.

Hosts Manchester United will be without makeshift midfield enforcer Phil Jones, who played a valuable part in shackling former Red Devils favourite Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu, so 39-year old Ryan Giggs who could be asked to sit along side Michael Carrick in the deep-lying central midfield positions, after being rested during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Norwich on the weekend.

Shinji Kagawa could have earned himself a start against Real Madrid after hitting a hat-trick against the Canaries last weekend, whilst England international Danny Welbeck could start after impressing in the first leg.

The last two meetings between the sides at Old Trafford have produced 12 goals and with Real Madrid likely to score at least once, goals are to again be expected in the Champions League tonight.
