Capital One Cup Predictions – Semi Final Betting Tips

The second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-finals take centre stage in English football this week, with Manchester United facing an uphill battle to reach the final after losing to Sunderland in the first leg.

Sportingly Better picks out the best football predictions and football betting tips in the Capital One Cup this week, as West Ham host Manchester City.

Capital One Cup Predictions

West Ham (7.50) v Manchester City (1.40); Draw (5.50)

West Ham’s 6-0 mauling at the Etihad Stadium two weeks ago left Manchester City all but guaranteed a place in the Capital One Cup final in February, as Manchester City continued their impressive form.

The Citizens are expected to rest a number of first team players for the trip to London on Tuesday, with long-term absentees Stevan Jovetic and Jack Rodwell likely to be involved after enduring lengthy spells on the sidelines this season.

Manchester City have lost none of their eight meetings against West Ham in all competitions, and that record looks set to continue with the likes of James Milner, Edin Dzeko, Micah Richards, Gael Clichy and Constel Pantilimon all fighting for a place in the final at Wembley.

Opponents West Ham have lost seven of their last nine matches in all competitions, but the support of manager Sam Allardyce appears to be unwavering, despite the club’s precarious position in the league.

The Hammers failed to attract Monaco striker Lacina Traore in joining the club on loan this week, but record signing Andy Carroll could start tonight in place of Carlton Cole.

Sam Allardyce still has a number of absentees to contend with at the back with Guy Demel, Joey O’Brien and Winston Reid all sidelined, but Kevin Nolan and James Tomkins are both available after serving their suspensions.

Hosts West Ham carry an incredible record in the League Cup having scored in 34 of their last 35 games at home in the competition and with the Hammers still without their defensive reinforcements the odds on both teams to score is likely to hold some appeal in the Capital One Cup tonight.

Manchester United (1.35) v Sunderland (10.00); Draw (5.00)

Manchester United will be looking to overturn their 2-1 Capital One Cup deficit this week, with Sunderland the visitors to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

An own goal from Ryan Giggs and a penalty from Fabio Borini gave Gus Poyet’s side their first win against Manchester United since 2000, but David Moyes is likely to field an attacking side for the encounter against the Black Cats having spoke of his anticipation for this match immediately after the defeat in the first leg.

First-choice strikers Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney are unlikely to start so Danny Welbeck may continue to lead the line for the Premier League champions.

Captain Nemanja Vidic sits out the next three matches after his late sending off at Chelsea, whilst Patrice Evra is also doubtful.

The Red Devils have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions, but the League Cup specialists have won eight of their last nine semi-final ties, losing only to Chelsea at the same stage nine years ago.

Visitors Sunderland have won only two of their last 25 meetings against Manchester United in all competitions, but with both victories coming in the League Cup, Gus Poyet’s side will fancy their chances of springing another upset to progress into the Capital One Cup final next month.

The Black Cats revival has been largely credited to forgotten England man Adam Johnson who has either scored or assisted nine of Sunderland’s last 11 goals and another start for the in-form winger looks likely on Wednesday.

Sunderland have scored two goals in all five of their ties in the Capital One Cup this season and with the hosts needing to attack, there should be plenty of goals found at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
